drego: With regards to updates, some changes have been made with regards to gaining access to the release archive. I'm not sure what this sudden protectiveness stems from.
Japanese culture. They have this weird and tremendous angst about letting any of their stuff get outside of their own borders. If you want to see it at it's worst, Try checking out the MUGEN community. Shit's like trying to smuggle someone out of North Korea.

That's curious (with regards to VH) considering that they provide some minor instructions in English (on the BBS, and in game), as well as one developer contemplating having an English language option (very tentative).
edit
Or maybe I'm reading it out of context, and it's a running gag. Who knows?
Anyway, the first post has been updated due to this. The gameplay images were removed to make the descriptions work better.
edit
Some clarifications posted on the BBS. The password protection is supposedly a response to a recent arrest in Japan, which centred around explicit imagery. It's to avoid random people downloading it, without knowing what it is. Well, that's the claim anyway.

drego: For those that aren't regulars to Hongfire, there something of an updated translation effort going on. Well, that didn't last long.hxxp://www.facebook.com/vh01eng: it warnning from Hongfire forum sorry for now but i will stop this project thankyou The warning in question:
hxxp://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php/100606?p=3328687#post3328687: Right, sorry in advance for this. I normally don't stray onto this thread, but I've received complaints from the VH devs. Considering the number of flames against me here in the past, I'm in no mood to defend anyone here, so I'll cut to the chase: they want either that you stop uploading prepatched games, or me to put VH onto a blacklist for RPGMaker Trans. As I said, I'm not going to be defending you guys, so if they complain again VH will go onto the blacklist for all foreseeable future versions of RPGMaker Trans. They may also look at using the opt-out to block all current versions of RPGMaker Trans. I should emphasise that I don't want to do this, but I don't see why I should have to deal with complaints about you guys. Why the developer would only contact habisain, rather than the guy doing the translations (or just addressing it in public), remains a mystery.

That blows. I'm not really certain what exactly the issue is anyway. I've been following the thread for awhile and I'm not seeing what sort of problem or drama is supposed to be arrising. Are they asspained about versions being released to the general public, or something?
Alright, So I went and read the thread again, and it's still complete non-sense. No rational is provided for why pre-patched releases are bad. If anything, it's just more convenient for end users. I'm just gonna chalk this one up to heavy retardation like in the MUGEN community.

Interesting titbit from the developer BBS.hxxp://xgame.dojin.com/vhwiki/xxx/test/read.php/bbs/1248163028/352: i don't get it
why does he have to listen to the voice from hongfire?
Do they think they rule this game or what?
i just read some messages there, and some dude says
that WE DEVs are complaining about re-posting the translated version...
Hell no, we've never complained.
for me it seems that dude's just making up his story to convince ton555 to upload a trans-patch only.
i hope you do not misunderstand the policy here.
it's simple, we do not have project leader here,
and anybody can join this project no matter where you are coming from.
And it's okay to release the translated version if you have a responsibility. The post was made anonymously, so we don't really know who made this statement.
hxxp://www.facebook.com/vh01eng: sorry guy but I have a good news
I will continue project VH The translation effort is supposed to be on track again. From the post on hongfire, it seems that there will be patches from now on, rather than full pre-patched releases.

hxxp://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/VH/Setup
Did you do everything (extraction + installation + running) under the correct locale?
Do you get any error messages?

miaw64: well all goes well until you have to choose what programme open with apploc, don t work with RPG2000... maybe i m doing wrong but i have no idea If you don't have Japanese locale installed, then you will get an error message telling you it's missing when you try to run applocale under it, but this is clearly stated in the error message you get, so I'm guessing this is not the issue you're having.
The other issue I know of, is if you try to install the RTP under the wrong locale, or extracting the game under the wrong locale. I mentioned this in my first response to your post, so I'm guessing you've already made sure that this isn't the case.
When it comes to applocale's compatibility with the game or the RPG Maker 2000 editor, there's no issue whatsoever. At least under XP and windows 7, since that's where I'm actively using it.

Can someone help me with this? Trying to install the more recent VH and I can't seem to get past this error here. I've installed it before on my old computer and I'm pretty sure I did all the same things now. Both the translated and original japanese versions have the same result.
