I've wandered in and out of here a few times. Even made a few comments a while back, but never felt a need to introduce myself. However, I felt it only polite to write something about myself before making any more comments.
I surf the Internet as an educational hobby. I know next to nothing about the demographic and psychographic make-up of those members who post here nearly every day, but I doubt I'm typical - male, retired professional, married with adult children, fighting a fatal disease (currently in remission) and with no prior experience with this type of art. Yes, at times, I do find it disturbing, but no more so than other art I seen in famous museums around the world. I believe art should be provocative.
But more important to me than the art is the nature of the group dynamics. The inner core (the rule makers and enforcers) reflect a bunker mentality which fascinates me. It appears to me that they reflect many of the social characteristics of a despised and discriminated against minority under attack. And then there is the elitism of the high status (> 500 posts) members and how it's manifested in their responses which is intriguing. So I come here more to contemplate the posters rather than the pictures. I trust all of you will not be offended to be viewed in your psychic nakedness,
BTW, why are members who don't post pictures defined as "leeches"? They're taking nothing from those who post, are they?

LOL. That's a different introduction.
They're called leechers because they take without giving back. 99.x% of our membership consists of people who have never posted (or have only posted a handful of times.)
Please go on about our admins and our mods. I find it very entertaining.

He feather. You are overcalculating it, about 2500 from 26000 aren't leechers.
Also, welcome, dear observer. Everyone is welcome in here as long as everything is okay with the rules.
You seem to enjoy reading, so you might want to go thru them, but you probably did, as you seem to be interested in the workings of lah.
About the "leechers", its not about people not posting pictures. If you mean the ranks, they are post-based. Make 7 posts and you won't be a leecher anymore. The majority of the users never leave this status, though.
If you check Electricus, he hardly ever posts pictures, and he's the site's top poster.
EDIT:
Forgot to add. As for being "typical", an average lah member is a single male aged around 20.
Welcome and enjoy

Fascinating. I think I like this gentleman. Welcome to LAH Pompano Pete.
Our dyanics in this community are complex, but overwhelmingly we stand by the policy of advocating created art rather than "captured" imagery like photos. It is important to understand that though we advocate the fictional theme, we comdemn the real application.
I for one am happy to answer any questions within reason that you may have about myself. I am unwilling to disclose information about other members, but I fully support the premise of people attempting to understand the positive aspects of our community.
The bunker mentality that you mentioned is for the safety of the community. By having rules that maintain LAH's legality and neutrality we continue to be able to provide a forum for our members to express themselves without fear of recrimination. It seems to me that you have read the rules and that being the case I am sure you understand why those certain topics are not permitted here on LAH.
Enjoy your stay!

If the high posters are an elite, am I the elite of the elite? LOL.
Sat's right of course, I hardly ever contribute material, but still I put things up here and there. I'm interested in psychology as well, so if there's anything I can help you with, just ask.

Thank you all so much for the friendliness of your individual replies. I'll try to be a good little boy However, let me clarify a key point. I'm here to observe the dynamics of the group and will never single out an individual, for any reason, EXCEPT to ask a question on a matter/issue on which they have expert information.
No complaints, no insults/flames, and definitely nothing personal. No one will ever read my opinion of Electricus, or anyone else.
And of course, I'll be browsing the art while I'm observing. After all, why do you think I picked this group over a community interested in 19th century American folk art.

Because this is cute, and folk art isn't?
