How to check/join a usergroup? |
Quote |
I recently joined and have noticed that certain every user is in a certain group, some due to their contributions, but others because they were given the ability to join. I read the FAQ but I couldn't find a place in the header on any page giving the option to apply for membership in any usergroup. Could someone explain how I would go about finding a list of groups and potentially applying to join one or more?

Currently, every usergroup has some kind of prerequisite(s):
- Extra Files: contribute enough then request access in your Introduction thread. Details here.
- Contributors: The most avid and active contributors are given membership to this group. Provides all permissions the EF group has, plus bragging rights.
- Donators: Make a donation. More details here.
- EF (or Contrib) and Donator: users qualified for more than one of the above groups (keeping in mind that Contrib overrides EF) are given a special combined group membership. So in practice, these are given to EF+Donator and Contrib+Donator specifically.
- Other: There are a couple other, often rare, groups which have no way of gaining membership to currently. These usually relate to event-specific timeframes, for example the 2009 monthly top donators and 2013 April Fools participators (this latter group has its membership display disabled for the time being though).
Back on topic, the admins have discussed the possibility of creating open groups that users can freely join, based on their preferred boards and likings, possibly even allowing users to create such groups. However, it is only a draft and not a priority at the moment, so it will probably take a while until it is implemented.

Does the "anonymous" imply that's something bad?
