Since this is the largest board, I'd figure I'd get the fastest reply here.
Why do links show up as "hxxp" and not as "http"?
And images cannot be shown outright, you must link to them, am I correct?
(Yes, I read the faq)

Well, since I got here first  I'll answer these questions.
We write hxxp instead of http so bots can't just stroll in here and rip the links or something. Maybe one of the others can fill you in as to the reasons. It's basically just convention around here ... like we all do it, and we've always done it. Just copy the link and change the x's to t's ... not that tough. It's just a thing to get used to.
We generally upload images directly into posts. I don't know about linking off-site with images ... never done it, myself. But yeah, just upload images with the attachment mod, and everybody's happy.

Well, I think the images are thumbnails so they load quicker and easier. And xx is used so we dont directly link to the sites. I'm not sure why it's so bad to direct-link, though.
Edit: beaten to it.

I don't think the reason is hotlinking, as much.. as it is acceptable ot use a code tag
which in my opinion would still let a bot grab it, i think it was explained on the old board that it was something to do with when you click on the link, it sends a referral or something.

hahah, actually, I just taken the rule from the old lah... its always been done, so we do it too.
Our attachment mod also prevents users from linking to our images.
BTW, this is a bit offtopic, but someone posted a 2 MB ZIP file doujin directly to the board. That might be a funny and convenient thing... but.
We have over 4000 registered users now. 2MBx 4000 = 8 GB traffic from just that doujin.... certainly not funny, lol
So what I wanted to say is that the attachment mod prevents posted pictures from being hotlinked to other sites and make lah big traffic.
