Nice quote.
The bug you mean is the arrow in between the quotes moving to a new line? In that case it seems to be another issue with the stable Chrome which isn't respecting the left column's width (increasing from our set 150px to 186px for no apparent reason). This bug isn't present on Canary as well. I'll investigate it later tonight.

I meant in this post any bug that is as straight and simple as the one you worked around. I think a chrome developer has a tool in which he'd find it in minutes, put it in a canary and let you test for side effects?

jacxxx: I meant in this post any bug that is as straight and simple as the one you worked around. I think a chrome developer has a tool in which he'd find it in minutes, put it in a canary and let you test for side effects? A "small" bug in a browser often has way more complications than it seems and I don't feel like spending weeks putting up with discussions with the devs with Commit access, arguing why it should be this way, ravaging through the W3C specs to backup my claims and proving that my proposed fix doesn't break anything else until it finally reaches the stable branch.
That is, unless it is something important that can't be easily worked around.
And as already stated, this specific bug has already been fixed in the latest alpha builds, therefore there's nothing to do in the Chromium source in this case.
edit: In the latest stable version, this issue seems to be fixed too now. I didn't edit any files yet, but now I see that there are some improvements that can be made - left column is still 10px larger than the necessary, some structure and presentation separation may be improved as well as rendering performance. Of course, this layout is about 5-7 years old and was most surely auto-generated by Dreamweaver MX, which has no focus in performance so performance changes won't be much noticeable until a new theme is made from scratch.

ult_combo: Opera shows the correct left column width and no line break before the -> icon in the linked post for me. On my old lahtop as well as on a faster, not extremely old PC I now get this layout - with the extra line break in opera as well as in Chrome. Maybe my screen settings are different from yours? But please don't misunderstand me: I consider it as an extremely unimportant side effect in itself, just wanted to mention it as an existing effect!
And ofc these layout issues are completely irrelevant, but - for me - could serve as a test case when something more important comes up. For me the following may be an important issue: when I'm comparing Chrome and Opera speeds using hxxp://www.speed-battle.com/speedtest_e.php - I don't understand this test itself at all but I think I understand the results - Chrome scores higher in "calc. speed" and much higher in "store speed" but much lower in "render speed". And this may be the reason for Chrome's poor - even fatal - performance as compared with Opera when I'm playing around with lah.li on my old lahtop.

Yes, I understand your points, also I have some doubts about that test page too - the results greatly vary whenever I run the test on Firefox, let alone it implies that Firefox is twice as fast as my Chrome when Chrome clearly can run animations much more smoothly and has a much lower overhead for basically everything.
Well, back to the main point, I've edited virtually all pages for the extended Anniversary updates, and I've noticed that the posts' left column varies depending on the avatars in the page (as the current layout uses tables, and table cells are default to extend to fit the content) and that is what was causing the bug for me on Chrome.
Opening my stable Chrome now, the bug is gone. Check if yours still has the problem, also open the About Google Chrome option to force an update in case it didn't update yet. It may be some misconfiguration or different configs from using XP, but still, that's a little weird as our design has defined fonts and font-sizes for everything. Zooming behaves naturally most of the time, sometimes it adds a line break at a different place. Maybe try setting your zoom to 100% just in case it isn't already? Ctrl+0 (zero) should do it on Chrome.
I'll make some optimizations on the viewtopic page soon enough too.

Well, at least it is consistent.
Still deciding the left column's fixed width, 166px seems to be enough to don't line break the post time with the default format, the new code will also allow for properly line breaking the post time when your chosen display format is longer than the default (atm it'd just gets cut out). I'll ship it together with a small batch of fixes, more detail when I finish these other fixes.

ult_combo: Well, at least it is consistent. Well, it seems Microsoft changed the layout a bit when changing from windows XP ---> 7 (I'm assuming windows 7 is your standard reference)
And perhaps google chrome may perform nicely in windows 7, but due to all hidden and unwanted changes it does very poor in XP?
I couldn't find a list of unwanted changes XP --> 7 (an "incompetence list"), but I did find an XP mode tool which should allow you to view lah.li in Xp, before and after you pimp it up

I use chrome on both winxp (laptop) and win7 (desktop) and it runs smoothly, without noticeable performance different. Ofc both my laptop's and desktop's hardware fulfill a minimal requirement.

Yes, I'm using Win7 atm. XP is a little outdated and I didn't enjoy the W8 UI. Of course different OS's will perform differently, even though most of the performance comes from the processor speed+cache and hardware-accelerated graphics (plus having enough free RAM memory), as Frz mentioned.
I prefer using VMware instead of XP mode as VMware has advanced hardware emulating and supports 3d-accelerated graphics, but for some reason, last time I tried I didn't manage to install Chrome on my XP VMs and settled with Firefox.
ps. About the fixes, I'll probably delay these to upload together with the next visible update, which should be relatively soon.

Oh thanks for the report, seems like a bug with the poll conflicting with the new table layout. Will patch it soon.
edit: fixed now.

edit: fixed now. The layout of the original and last problem page is fine now, even in xp & chrome
In my previous post I was not aware that your new table layout was already implemented, I first wanted to check your last update of the LAH Goto Page Number here

Yes, the fixes went live together with the winter theme update. You will also notice that
