[Oshibaru's Project] Imo Hara [On Hiatus] |
Quote |
This Post Last Edit: 2012-03-11
Just started preliminary work on translating 妹孕 (Imo Hara) and this will be the status/info thread for the project. Be warned, this is my first project and I am doing it solo, so progress will be slow. My free time is a bit random so sometimes I have a lot and can do 4 hours in a day, sometimes it's non-existent and can't even do 4 minutes in a week. As it stands now, I'm looking at 6 to 8 months (which is VERY subject to change). I'll keep things updated as well as I can.
Even when I am done with this, it will not be a 100% translation, but it will be close. There are a few things that I am not going to translate, but rather just shift from kana to romaji (Oniichan, itadakimasu, and a few others come to mind).
Game Details
Game: 妹孕~ロリーな妹は股ニティー~ (imo hara~RORIー na imouto wa MATANITEEー~)
Game ID: RJ071341
Release Date: 12/2010
Circle: パンプキン (pampukin)
Link: hxxp://www.dlsite.com/maniax/work/=/product_id/RJ071341.html
Current Translation Status: 2012-03-11
Project on hiatus until further notice
Current Patch:
It's The "What is this shit?" Patch (2012-02-25)
Past Translation Status:
FAQ
Q: Where is the patch?
A: It's in the same post that announces it. You need to log in to see it.
Q: How do I install the patch?
A: Uncompress the archive and you will have a file called patch.xp3 take this file and place it in the same directory as the main program .exe file.
Q: WHAAAA! It screwed things up, how do I uninstall it?
A: Just delete the patch.xp3 file and things will go back to normal.
Q: Hey! The numbers in the stats keep changing. First you said that there were 42 images to do and now it says 44... what's going on?
A: There are over 1200 files to go through in this game and only a small number of them need to be altered in some way. I missed a couple on my initial survey. I'm probably still missing a few so expect the number to change again.
Q: You claim a lot of work has been done but I don't see much... what's up with that?
A: None of the files are pure dialog files. There's lots of game flow control as well as game interface control in most files. You won't always see the results of changing/tweaking something.
Q: So when is a patch coming out?
A: See planned releases below.
Q: How often should I check here for updates?
A: No more often than every 1 to 2 weeks. Progress updates won't usually be more frequent than that and patches will be announced at least a week ahead of time.
Q: Anything else to say?
A: Yes. ALL work is to be considered to be BETA and is subject to change (up to and including version 0.99.99). Just because a line looks correct doesn't mean that it will be correct when put in context of other translated lines.

Thanks Sat. Since I'm still basking in the afterglow of starting a new project, everything is looking rosy I'm sure that by the time February rolls around and it's cold and dreary, all the easy stuff has been done, and I'm translating at the rate of one line a day I'll be singing a different tune
FWIW, a wild ass number pulled out of the same wild ass puts the size of the final patch at about 2MB. I'm sure that that'll change, but that's the number I'm working with at the moment.
Lastly, what's the more preferable release method:
1. one patch released at the end of the project
2. periodic patches (patch 0.x.x monthly?) that include work to date and then a final 1.0 patch at the end
I'm easy and could go either way... what say the mob?

That is hard to say... Lets say it like this:
Periodic patches will give you more publicity, but also a LOT of nagging where people
will just ask you to give them the full patch you must already be hiding
Full release will give you peace to work, but less people will know about your
project until it is completed.

Good food for thought there.
From what I've seen here and on some of the dev blogs, it's mostly lack of communication rather than lack of an incremental patch that causes all the problems. This is especially true on projects that lots of people want to see done. Devs make a project announcement and maybe a few posts about their own hopes for the project, and then... nothing. After a few months of silence, people get a bit roudy on the boards. Dev finally shows up to tell everyone to piss off after they get fed up with all the bitching. Lots of bad feelings all around for something that should be having good word of mouth. For devs that keep some communication going (even if to just say that not much has changed), the most complaints come from buggy pre-release patches that don't get fixed (program crashes, OS crashes, other nasty things).
So this is how I think I'll do things:
1. I'll keep the status in the top post updated every one to two weeks.
2. Infrequent incremental patches (maybe 3 or 4) between now and V1.0.0 with prompt action taken if something buggy gets put out.
3. The first patch, which will NOT be a magical translation of everything, will be out before 11:59 PM December 31 US Eastern Time. It will consist mostly of graphics and some of the dialog in the 'prolog' section of the game. It won't be much but it'll be something for Christmas (much like that hand knitted sweater that your grandmother gives to you that itches and doesn't fit too well. You kiss her and thank her for it while silently wishing that it was a model rocket kit instead.)

Patch Release #1 |
Quote |
Patch Level: 0.02.98 2011-12-23
Imo-Hara-Patch-00298.rar
It's The "Your Step-Sister Is A Ho Ho Ho" Patch.
パッチは『君の妹はホーホーホー』です。
What's in it:
- most image work translation is complete
- most interface menu items are translated
- about 30% of the first section (PROLOGUE) dialog is translated
I'm releasing it now instead of on the 31st because the next two weeks are basically shot. With Christmas, New Years, family, friends, and all the other stuff I need to do, very little in the way of progress will get done. Rather than rush at the last moment and miss something I'll put it out now so I don't have to rush. Please send all grievances to the Festivus Pole
My Priority List:
- complete graphics translation
- complete menu items
- get all files into the patch (current patch only contains 47 files)
- continue work on PROLOGUE section

Been sick all week. Oddly enough, this has cause me to get more work done than expected. In between naps and hocking up my lungs, I got the menus and graphics completed. Doing a re-verify of all the scripts showed that I didn't have to do as many as I thought. As a result the "Kitchen Sink" patch should be out next weekendish. Keep your fingers crossed and the NyQuil handy

A few random tidbits to bring in the new year.....
- "Imo Hara" was not my first choice for translation. The one I was more interested in doing was "Yuka" by Kaeri no Kai 2 but I lacked the tools to rip/edit/compile the game. "Imo Hara" was one of my newer downloads that I found both interesting and I had the tools to work on it. That's how it got chosen as my project.
- I just did an alpha compile of the next patch, "Kitchen Sink". I have all 63 files in the patch now and, more importantly, it's under 2MB in size. It will fluctuate as it gets worked on but it won't change so much that it will go over 2MB. That means that there will be no need to go to a third-party site to get it.
- The heroine's name is Kohane. It can be roughly translated to: Child Feather
- The hero (in the game script) is referred to as "Shuginkou" (which is what I used for translation). However, this is NOT his name. "Shuginkou" translates as "protagonist".
- The simplest walk-through. This will have you score 100% for the first section, score about 78% on the second section, and give you ED1 as an ending. On a clean install you will end up with 4 items in the CG gallery and 4 items in the Memory gallery...
- I'm going to guesstimate on a few dates and fill them in on the first post. They are the targets I am aiming for but are in no way firm.
Happy New Year

And on the fifth day of the new year the cocky neophyte translator did discover his cardinal error...
He did not maintain proper copies of all files.
Well, without having to go into too much detail, I'll just say that I royally screwed up. The good news is that none of the work that I have already done is lost. Bad news is that I have to go through and recreate all new clean copies of the scripts (and then new working copies from those). The next patch (probably tomorrow) won't have as much in it as I had hoped, but it does come with the bonus lesson about keeping proper copies of everything AND keeping them separate.

Patch Level: 0.18.99 (2012-01-06)
Imo-Hara-Patch-01899.rar
It's The "Kitchen Sink" Patch.
パッチは『台所流し』です。
What's in it (everything but the kitchen sink):
- ALL files that need to be altered are now in the patch file (completed, in progress, and not yet started (63 files)). This allows me to do global changes and gives me a bit more flexibility in working.
- Graphics are done
- Menu items are done
- A bit more of the PROLOGUE is done
- A bit of formatting/punctuation cleanup
- 80% complete on re-creating lost files

This week has been extremely busy and next week looks to be busy as well I've gotten zero work done this week and not so much as a single 『...ん?』 has been translated. Hopefully I'll be able to do a bit more than nothing in the coming week Priority, once I get the time, is to complete re-creating the lost files I need to continue. I had hoped to be able to do another patch in 2 weeks but that may not happen. We'll see what happens over the next two weeks...

Sorry everyone but January was a complete shit month for me. One of the big down sides to a one person project is that if that person can't get any work done then nothing on the project gets done. Things should ease up a bit for me this month and I'm hoping (cross fingers and knock wood) to have enough done to put out a patch in about two weeks.
