PN04's art post |
Quote |
I've been a member of the board a while and while I've tried in the past of offer new images to download and critiques for the artists that have asked for them I've rarely posted much of my own work mostly because it's been in flux for so long. Even now I'm still really trying to find my style but I like to think I'm getting closer. In my absence from the forum for a while I've decided to get a little more serious about my art.
I dont have much to post right now but hopefully that will change in time!

The first image was drawn directly into illustrator and then touched up in photoshop. This one I decided to do in pencil so I could test out my scanner and then I splashed a little color on it in photoshop, mostly to get rid of some messy stuff that comes from scanning. I havent drawn characters in an intimate moment in a while and thought if I'm going to get more serious now is the time. It was going to be Kyon and Yuki Nagato in her "space outfit" from Haruhi but I realized I wasnt very good at drawing them and just made them original characters (maybe another time!).

Just posting a couple of doodles from my sketch book. I think I'm starting to get confident enough in my style that I can start thinking about working on the idea I have planned, some times the proportions I want to happen just don't because I'm so used to drawing full size humans so when I start doing petite anime characters I find the transition jarring.
I think I'm going to start doing character designs today so I can get on top of the story portion, the second picture might actually be the girl I use as a base unless I get a better idea, but I need to get her personality to be consistent first and I still need to come up with the right type of clothing.

uff, is your name related to that train wreck P.N.03? lol that game was awful.
anyways, I like where youre going. your sketches are good. CG needs work, i wouldnt recommend illustrator or any vector tool to cg. It makes the picture look too stiff and artificial. Use a regular brush and draw freehand if you have a tablet.

hehehe the name came from kinda a round about way, I went to type the name of the game one day and I misspelled it with the 4, but my crazy dyslexic mind saw it as PORN So I decided to use it. Game wasn't so bad as a simple mindless shooter with a chick in a tight outfit, the gameplay was just not executed as well as it could have been. Probably rushed.
I agree the CG on the second one isn't nearly the best I could do. I admit i just kinda sprayed some color on so it wouldnt be black and white but I guess it's probably less distracting without the color for now huh? Hopefully my next fully colored piece will be better indicative of my ability. I'm really bad at free hand drawing with the tablet ever since CS2. I think maybe the older versions of Photoshop had more intuitive brushes? because I used to do better back then. The vector drawing could be better I'm sure. I've seen people do wonderful stuff with it, the only way I can get that level of quality is to practice.
Thanks for the comments! I'll try to work in some of your suggestions for the next post.

Thanks! I'm hoping to have a few new images today. They're just simple character designs but, I want to try and photshop them up a bit first. Hopefully I dont get caught in the siren call of my game system or something.
Rather than make a new post I'm just going to edit this one and add some new art. A couple of them are colored the other ones I might have colored if I had scanned them better. I think I need a better scaner because it's always such a toss up.

your coloring is improving, i prefer the soft, sketchy brushy look than the cold vector one.
it takes a lot of work to get good at vectoring, but is it really worth the trouble? i says no.
there haven't been any changes done to the brush in cs2 as far as im concerned, but a little something i do to sketch with the default brush is to set the flow to 75%. It makes the brush feel a lot better. play with this setting a little bit and see what works for you.

coloring on third post is arguably much better than fourth one. Just my 2cents ;;;

Thanks guys!
Vector line work is actually something I have to improve on for my job so I use it from time to time it's also easier to draw in illustrator than in flash... at least until I figure out how to use non vector art in flash consistantly. it may not be worth the trouble for simple illustrations but some projects call for it as a requirement.
When I mentioned CS2 I forget to mention that I upgraded for I'll give the 75% bush a try although I have to say I've put a lot of work into trying to draw in photoshop and I never get nearly the quality I'd like compared to the art above that I scanned. I always end up erasing and redrawing lines a dozen times, maybe I need a different size tablet.
I'm still finding my style as I experiment with the way I construct my art from beginning to end I'm finding better ways. Hearing that you guys think the third picture was better than the forth tells me something about the process that I used on each.
