Lol...can anyone teach me to play mahjong? I've played against her a few times, I get a "win" every now and then, but always manage to lose in the end...and i'm just playing randomly

This title is hitting me very hard. I've already played it for 7 hours straight, having no previous experience in official Mahjong.
Does anyone know what scoring system this game uses? There have been several instances in which I though I had a winning hand (usually involving melds) only to wind up without the option to declare Mahjong after drawing what I thought was a winning tile.
Also, does anyone know for sure how to unlock the CGs not provided in the save file?
Tsuruya has only given me 1 more CG in addition to the bottom CG, and clearing the game in easy mode has not yet yielded more results.
I have not been successful in either normal or hard mode, and am trying my best I can assure you.

There are multiple scoring systems for Mahjong, including Hong Kong, Chinese, Japanese Modern, and American Modern styles (though who knows they may all have the same conditions for declaring mahjong). I'm already working with a tutorial on most of these styles, I just wanted to find out exactly which was being used.
Several differences in this game's physics from Chinese Classical Mahjong are apparent, including the disinclusion of flowers and seasons tiles and the possible disinclusion of seat and prevailing winds, given it's a 2 player variant.
I'm still not sure whether or not a pung of any wind adds a han to the hand for this specific game, allowing [melded combinations containing only this condition] to be declarable as Mahjong.
If anyone has an answer to my question regarding unlocking the final CGs for the game, I'd be very grateful to hear it as well.
My apologies for any misunderstanding, I wasn't simply asking for a general tutorial relating to Mahjong, unless you're saying the system laid out in the wiki is in fact the scoring system used.
Best wishes to everyone, hard difficulty's a tough nut to crack,

I've actually cleared the game with an ending credit roll as well, on easy mode.
I played through one each of Asahina-san's, Nagato-san's, and Suzumiya-san's scenarios before receiving the credit roll.
Am I missing a fourth scenario somewhere?
I've only received one other image from [the matches played with Tsuruya by choosing the second main menu option].
By beating the game, do you mean unlocking the rest of the CGs?
If so, do you remember how you did it?
If not, thank you very much for your help in any case.
EDIT 1: Clearing the game entirely through Normal did not yield any additional CGs on clear, though I can tell you it was like crossing a desert in fulfilled hopes of finding an oasis.
I had the game on for no less than 7 hours...
In any case, I've managed to unlock some new CGs via the matches with Tsuruya. Both unlocks were on special wins (All Pairs and Four Closed Sets) and were achieved in normal mode. The CGs were also placement specific, one of them in the middle of nowhere in the list.
This suggests the CGs may become available upon the first of each special win in Mahjong, although any other number of conditions may yield them (including score checkpoints during Tsuruya matches.
