Problem with DSC files

Ok, here's what happened. I went to DLsite to see if they had any Tenchi stuff, which naturally they had. So I went to by some, but after downloading I find that all the images and information are something called .DSC . All the filenames are [name].jpg or [name].png or even [name].pdf, but they're all DSC. Does anyone know what I can do with them, because nothing works when I click on it. All I get is an error message about 'Tri Filter' or something.

Screens, sample files, etc. Preferable error message text.

It won't let me attach as DSC file. Not even a jpg.DSC.

Looks like a kind of a copy protection. Kinda like in the game you posted in extra files. Would you mind passing me the whole package you got?

And while I'm asking, since some of these are supposed to be pdf files, what do I download from that site Pleinare put up to extract the images? I had a look, but couldn't make head nor tails of it.

It was a program to extract images from pdf files. It was in this thread.

Try this. You should be able to "unlock" the files and maybe copy them to a different folder without the protection. As I do not posess your license, I guess I won't be able to decode the files myself.

I did some research myself as well and I found something even more worrying: even if you DO have a key, you may still be unable to unlock it, as it seems to be a computer-specific protection, meaning that only the one who created that file could open it.

There seems to be a way around it, but it apparently requires very good hacking skills and would probably require one to venture into forbidden territory to get the job done.

If that's true, it might be best to just try and contact the guy who uploaded these files and ask if he can unlock them. That or try downloading them again (if possible) and hope that they come through the way you'd expect them to.

Yes, its a hardware based key, so if you change any hardware in your pc, or reinstall your windows, you will be unable to decode it. For pictures, I think you could screenshot them into paint shop pro/photoshop or something. But vids might be a problem.

One thing I have learned. If you buy them on the japanese dlsite, the protection won't be there.
