Will this do? I just basically resized it to 120x120 pixels which seems to be the forum limit.

Does anyone know if there is a size limit (filesize) on avatars. A bit hard to make it below 40kb without loosing quality.

EDIT: Added 100x100 15.5kb version and still image version 120x120 10.5kb due to forum limits on uploaded avatar file size. Had to drop quite a bit of data to squeeze it below 16kb Confused

EDIT: Removed the 40kb version, too big anyway.

Yes, I kind of expected that there would be a file size limit too. Not exactly uncommon in forums.

What is the actual limit then? As far as I can see the rules&faq page only states 120x120 pixels.

under where you upload your avatar it says --- 16kb. It should probably be in the rules for reference.

There are no remote hosted avatars. All avatars are hosted on LAH.

I think this information should definitively be spelled out in the rules section. It is after all the first place one looks for this kind of information and the first thing everyone is told to read.

And yet so few seem to actually read them . . . (not directed at you).

I think there's no official limit on file size for sigs, although obviously the smaller, the better. Given the limits on dimensions, I can't imagine a sig being unreasonably large unless it's a PNG or something. Sigs can be hosted on LAH by request, but I think most host them externally; just enclose the image's URL in the BBCode [img][/img] tags in the signature field (if you don't already know that). That's what I think is not covered in the rules.

Bernoulli's signatures are almost all pretty bloated, but I have optimized all that I host on lah before uploading them. Mostly was like 160kb-->22Kb...
