Hi Fragnostic,
Thank you for continuing to post your artwork. I wanted to tell you that I like the pictures that have a background color or scene best. So I find the pictures that you did of Yue, the neko girls and the girl at the nude beach very apppealing. Nice job with the shading and a special compliment on the way you color their eyes. (I really admire the way you did Yue's hair and eyes!) Kudos.

Fogbank, thank you, glad to hear that they got to your liking. I'll try to avoid blackness and add better backgrounds now and then. And also, I'm surprised because the eyes are something that I use layer styles for (I know, awful of me) so I didn't expect any praise at them...
plooker, glad to hear that, but i need positive response and critics, an artist cant get better by himself, he needs someone to tell him what can he get better at. Thank you for your support and
Hope y'all like!

Fragnostic: an artist cant get better by himself, he needs someone to tell him what can he get better at.
not true, while having other ppl give you constructive criticism can help you get better at a somewhat faster pace and help you avoid mistakes, you cant get better on critique alone. you still need to be your own critic and help yourself improve, that along with LOADS of practice and perhaps experimentation is the best way to improve, everything else only helps you along....
aside from that i can atm only give you one advice: shading, shading, shading shading (hypocritical ain't i?? )

I'm at a loss as to how the lines are made so clean.
Illustrator? Are these strokes only possible through a tablet?
I have to color with a brick, and I have no clue how to rid my pictures of those rough pencil lines.
I've been at it for ten fucking years and I have no idea how it is done.
I use Photoshop CS3 and I used the pen tool extensively in illustrator, but not in Photoshop.
I suppose I should practice that.

No, its just Photoshop CS4.
I am not using a tablet, but my mouse...
And that is only using the (in)famous pen tool to make paths that will be filled with black, after that a slight (0,2/0,3) blur applied to smoothen the lines. Shading is made the same way, using the pen tool and filling with a color/gradient.
Only the eyes (in my recent works - see deviantart) use another technique - burning and dodging...
For example, I just take a rough sketch and follow the lines with the pen tool, its simple... but time consuming, because i don't make one border of the line, but two... thus, imitating the effects of a tablet.
The one negative thing that is to be mentioned, using this method causes lines to get awfully bold at times...

I am very impressed to say the least, even more now that you say you are tracing these pictures with a brick (mouse).
I could do the same thing but I suppose I don't have the patience to lay down so many careful vector paths with the pen tool, and even if I did take the time to try that method it's pretty clear to me that you are ahead of the game when it comes to that.
If you still have access to the Mascot Topic maybe you could give me pointers on my later versions of Feather Chan? I respect your opinions highly.
I also think I could get great results out of Illustrator CS3, I'm going to download it here soon and toy around with it.

Yeah, well I had the patience since I started my thread here, so just hopping from one
thing that needs a shitload of time to another seems natural.
No, sorry to disappoint you, I don't have access to the Mascot Topic, I haven't thought of a way to contribute, but sure, I could ask Sat to enable it for me.
Illustrator is really good, and you don't need to fill the vectors, like I do, and they are obviously smoother, as they are vectors, not rasters... But I find the lack of customization of the lines a bit irritating. Anyways, it is a good tool to work in and I think you can do art in it at least fine.

So after some time on Deviantart I posted a censored image over there:
http://fragnostic.deviantart.com/art/Meow-safe-version-186068712
and here is the original version:
and the story:
a loli catgirl was sneaking down to you because she;s in heat,
but the lights were out and she fell off the stairs.
