Actually, it was caused by the patch tuesday. Microsoft released windows updates and millions of users have logged off of skype and then all at once back in. It killed their servers. Should be okay by tomorrow or something.

Did anyone else receive a Skype 5.1 update today? If so, is anyone freezing up during the sign in process? Since this morning I've been unable to use it due to a bar at the bottom of the window accompanied "Skype is updating files. This may take some time." It stops over halfway, HANGS, renders every program unresponsive for half a minute, then is forced to close due to freezing.
I want to uninstall but I don't want to lose chat logs.

Skype 5.1 has been around for a while AFAIK. Just end all skype processes over task manager, download the skype setup from skype.com and just install it over it. Your data will stay.
