Hey everybody,

long time lurker here, who's working on a little project.

I really do like the game Magic Castle RePure Aria. I like that pixel artstyle without outlines, but there is one issu I have with that game:
I really, really hate censorship. Those mosaics hiding the MC's penis, as well as that shadow/angle censoring of vaginas and genitalia in general during H scenes really annoys me. The view of a penis entering a vagina during H scenes is the key turn on for me in H games and because there is no uncensored version on the web to be found, I thought I'd take matters into my own hands.

In this project I want to achieve 3 things:
1. Get rid of all the mosaics censoring any genitalia
2. Slightly adjust and fix angles and shadows to not hide genitalia anymore (also, redo the whole male masturbation sprite sheet. damn, this looks like the boy is in pain from jerking his little friend).
3. Nipples are "hidden" by the dev by making them the same color as the rest of the skin instead of having a slight highlight. That needs to be fixed.
(4. Optional: Include x-ray to sprites, where the angle doesn't allow to show genitalia either way)

Now my only problem is: I'm not very good at pixel art and I'm still learning. I have already decensored a lot of the sprites of the game, but I'm not really satisfied with the result so far. Because of this I would be happy for any help or advice on the decensoring job.

Also protip:
If you want to work on the project with your own files and don't want to download every picture, you can extract the game files with DXExtract. Just drag and drop the .dxa files in from the game on top of the DXExtract executable and they're unpacked into a folder.
To use the files from the unpacked archives you need to invalidate the .dxa archives by changing the file-extension to something the game doesn't recognize (e.g. .dxa.bak), so it tries to look for the files via the folder subdirectory.

Sooo...
I've been a bit busy lately and still have got a lot to do on this, but I've already worked a bit on it and thought I'd share what I've already done, with you.

Link is hxxps://mega.nz/ as usual. You know how this works here.

It's the latest English version (v121) of the game (which is a bit behind the latest Japanese v123) with my decensored pictures. Just hit repurearia121eng1.3.exe and have fun.

Once I'm done with decensoring everything I might even give it a shot, translating everything appropriately instead of just providing this really bad English version, although I really hate working with files from Wolf RPG games. For some reason that Japanese dude / company who programmed Wolf RPG Editor thought it would be a good idea to use the normal letter e for the word-wrap to the next dialogue box, so you can't just normally type anything with an e inside without messing up the whole script and using other unicode e's also doesn't work every time (plus, it looks absolutely crappy, as the space for other e-lookalikes is usually wider than normal letter spaces).

Alright, big update guys. A couple of really major things happened.

tl;dr:
  • A brand new translation version (repurearia121eng1.4.exe) was released*
  • I've decensored a LOT of sprites (about)
  • Additionally I've improved a couple of sprites so genitalia is visible during sex animations
  • Link to the newest version is again hxxp://mega.nz and see attachment for the rest

Long version of the translation part:

I have done some necroposting on another forum, leading to someone picking up the translation originally made by Anticor again. There are some issues with it though:

1. Sadly, this is not a new translation from scratch, which is why a lot of sentences still sound kinda clunky (iirc Anticor is neither a native English nor native Japanese speaker and his interpretation skills for Japanese are rather average).


2. Also, this new translation version is still running version 121 of RePure Aria, while the latest version is v123. However, the latest version only features a few minor bugfixes, so it shouldn't be too problematic. Also, if you really want to play the newest version, you can just play the repurearia123.exe, although you won't have translated menus and items then (the text for these are stored in the .exe file itself, unlike the game's script, which is stored in the events.dxa archive)

3. There is still the issue with the letter "e" in this translation, but people have now found out, what is causing this problem. According to the creator of the game itself, they used the small letter e for linebreaks (since no one thought of it leaving Japan anyway), but only if the e is on an odd Byte.
This means, that every time the letter e appears on an odd space, it will cause a linebreak, making everything after it invisible. There are multiple ways to fix this:
- write all the text of the game in capital letters (looks extremely dumb)
- write all the e letters of the game in capital letters (looks even dumber)
- edit the game's .exe with a Hex editor, so it uses another character (e.g. §) as linebreaker, which is extremely difficult and a lot of work afterwards
- replace all the e's on odd spaes with a double-width e character: "e"
The guy who translated the rest chose the latter method, since it was apparently the easiest, however there are still a few scenes, where e is causing a linebreak or the double-width e is misplaced, causing it to become a double dot (no clue why that happens, when e is misplaced).

With all of this explained, I hope you get a bit more understanding about the issues with this project.
RePure Aria is a game made in a custom engine, which isn't out there on the market, making translations and edits extremely difficult and requiring use of a Hex Editor for a couple of things (and I have no clue about Hex Editors).

In regards to my decensoring edits: I hope you like what I did so far. Especially the large clam mob that has visible sex with the MC is something I'm really proud of. Took quite a long time to make it look satisfying for myself.

I haven't actually played this game yet but this seems really impressive. Normally I just mod games that have tools for them but doing it without specific tools is a whole other ball park. Keep up the good work.

The only tools I have here is DXExtract to get the sprites (and thankfully RePure aria doesn't have a billion individual images for every scene) and image editing software to decensor these manually. Most of it has to be drawn from my imagination, though some stuff has a few rough reference points.
Other stuff on the other hand requires me to make ingame screenshots, then combine multiple sprites in layers above the screenshot and then edit stuff so it looks good.

Alright, it has been a long time and I have been lazy, but finally I've pulled myself together and finished this project.

There is a set of 2 CGs which don't match my usual quality standard, as I am still not good enough in pixel art and making it match my standard would take way too long, but I guess it's still good enough already. All the pixel art sprite sheets however are how I imagined them to be and are now a little more revealing than before.

To play the game, simply extract it into an empty folder and hit repurearia121eng1.4.exe

Thanks a lot, but honestly, it wasn't that large of a project.
All in all, I have edited 95 sprite sheets. Many other Japanese games however have over 1000 sprite sheets or pictures and that would be waaaay too troublesome for me to do.
