That's a major pay jump. There's repetitive strain risk from the meat cutting but it's still better than what you're doing now. If you can get the job it does sound like an improvement.

I feel you-

Completely "white" looking male, but raised/lived first 25 years in India, and naturally have accent to prove it :/

From 12yrs -18yrs old parents had me take "naturalization courses" to learn to sound more "American White"

I hold 3 separate masters and nearly a doctorate in psychology, but talk and type like I dropped out of 9th grade- USA Baby.

Were they mocking your speech, vash98, or were they trying to produce "war whoops" or something like that?

The country is full of probably hundreds of different dialects. Everyone sounds strange to someone else, and normal to others. Standardization was developed to erase differences. Remember the "Middle Atlantic" accent from the Mid-20th Century movies? Entirely artificial. Someone's idea of a "good" accent.

I've helped others with English. Different languages have different ways of phrasing ideas, and that's true of some dialects, too.

Beagoodgirl, are you a native Hindi or Urdu speaker, or another language? I've heard people from India shift among what sounds like two, three, or four languages during the course of a single conversation. For anyone who doesn't know them, it can be dizzying. Sometimes impressive, too. Educated Westerners used to do that all the time, mixing French, German, Latin, and sometimes Greek or Italian in with their English. That was back when it was considered proper to learn other languages, rather than expecting everyone to speak a single language - English.

The common culture has absorbed some things that the majority thought were harmless even when they weren't. That type of thing is nowhere near as - I won't say awful, because that isn't strong enough. What happened toward many of the native inhabitants were outright atrocities, and they happened across centuries, from first contact on Hispanola right through into the 20th Century.

At least it wasn't directed at you personally. Unless they were disparaging natives directly, they may not have even realized the effect. It was common in the sports world for a long time. Thing are still changing with that sort, so it might get better in time.

If you're Choctaw, do you have enough connection to establish tribal membership? That could help you get medical care.

Right. You'll still want the info when you can get it.

In the scheme of things, cultural (mis)appropriation is one of those things that can jab you, but with the amount of active hostility out there I worry more about larger issues. Education can help.

Finally having someone of native ancestry and culture running the Dept. of Interior and therefore the BIA is one of the biggest positive gains.

Far past time, and after what the last lot tried to do, she has even more work in hand.

I saw the outfit she wore when she was sworn in. The dress was beautiful. It shimmered in the light and was full of color beside the rich blue that was the main hue. Vibrant is the right word for it.

Have you ever considered using native elements in your art?
