Guys, wouldnt it be better to provide him with the english version of Ps rather than translating everything?
Also, behold, CS4 will soon dominate all my (and probably yours too) works

well, when you multiply two sums the result is a product . . . interesting.

Anything else I can point you to?

I've heard that cs4 still has bug issues, but new software tends to anyway. They're pulling a Microsoft IMO, updating software needlessly, strictly for revenue generation. Hopefully CS4 has something real to offer, though I haven't seen a change in image manipulating software for the last eight years. CS2 or JASC PSP6 is still plenty good enough, but then I also believe multi core processors are unnecessary, and only exist to accommodate todays inefficient and sloppy coding. In other words don't listen to me, I'm getting old. Rolling Eyes

Meh, succesfuly using it for some time now, and i must say they improved when it comes to vectors, some nice tools added, probably most people would say CS4 is useless, but i took a liking to it.

Lots of useful information in here thanks guys!

I tried for the first time tonight to color my first image. I don't have photo shop so I use Paint.Net, which works pretty much the same as PS. But when it comes to adding shading and blushing and such to images I have no idea what I'm doing. I've never messed with Layers before so I guess I just need to learn that.

I'll post the image I colored, but to be honest I'm pretty sure it's been colored before lol. (I didn't mess with the eyes and mouth just so ya know.)

Any advice would be great =)

Not a bad attempt, but I'll try to offer a few pointers:

First, I'd recommend darkening the image however you might see fit. You can do that inside of a program like photoshop, or sometimes your scanner will give you the option to change the contrast.

The second piece of advice I would give is to reel your eyes in a bit more. It's hard to say exactly HOW much space should be between the eyes in an anime context, but the general rule of thumb is that a head is five eyes across and there's one eye space in the middle, so adjust that as you'd see accordingly for anime eyes. Another basic head construction tip is that if you're head is split in half horizontally, the eyes would rest on that midline if it were an older character, with anime, you'd reduce take into account 1/2 a division at the top, then the eye would rest on the primary division, in other-words, it'd be below where it would be if it were an adult, and the forehead occupies more space as a result. Then the nose rests in another half of that division, and 1/3 of the way from the chin would be your lip.

In general, when drawing, make sure your drawing is loosely marked up before putting anything down, that way you avoid the hair being chopped off at the top and the general sense of having to fit the piece to occupy the page. You did that with her right leg. If something has to go off the page, let it go, even if it doesn't look good, but you want to avoid that all together by having some basic idea of where things go.

Last step is practice, use lots of reference and practice a lot, that's the only real way to improve.

Some CC, if you want it!... if you want to know what you need to practice to draw "better", you need to learn how to make a skeleton for your drawings before you start to put the "meat" on them.

hxxp://www.designyourway.net/blog/tutorials/photoshop-tutorials/drawing-anime-big-tutorial-collection/

this website has a lot of useful info on it that should help you!

hxxp://taylor-the-weird.deviantart.com/art/Anime-Female-Body-Tutorial-23294775

This is the "Anime Female Body Tutorial by Taylor-the-Weird" from the previous link. Hopefully this helps give you an idea for making characters seems more life-like in their movement and body structure.

You're off to a good start but just like when I started drawing anime years ago, I never realized that it helped a lot to do a skeleton or general body shape before getting down to the details.

If theres anything else I can help with, just ask! =)

*edit* I'm not trying to hijack the thread but here's an example of the process I go through. It starts out a broad sketch then when I make a clean version on a different layer, I tend to change up spots I don't like. For this picture, the shoulders, face, and arms were changes quite a lot from the original sketch.

Another great website I found that was a great help and really inspired me

hxxp://www.idrawgirls.com/

TONS of tutorials, sort of hard to fine some of the really good ones, but this guy is amazing! (if you can understand what he's saying lol.)

Something else that's possible... download .pdf files of "how to draw" books. Don't know if .torrents are ok to talk about, but you can "find" torrents of "how to draw" about everything

After some intensive practice (lol) using your helpful links forsaken, this is what I managed to come up with. I'm still not too good with the clothes but I gave it my best shot. I thought it looked cute. Any CC would be helpful.

Sorry to make that first part sound epic...
