Just curious but why bother with h**p? I've heard people actually tell someone to type "http://www.someplace.url". There's no need for it. It's a waste of time. In most cases you don't even need the "www.". The server you are refering to will most likely default to it. NASA'a web server doesn't have a default. Going to nasa.gov gets nothing but try google.com or asstr.org or most every other place on the net without putting in the "www.". The server also determines what program you're using to access and if it's a browser it will default to the HTT Protocol which will set the "http://" for you.[/b]
If we're having to copy and paste to get to a link correctly why bother with stuff that needs editing?

I suppose you could use hxxp for what the link appears as and have the link as an http when you click on it, but dunno if bots are smart enough to grab the actual link if it is on a board post

Still no answer to the question. I know the idea is to avoid bots. My question is why put something in a URL that's not needed. H(anything)P:// is not needed to get to a web page. You're trying to avoid bots by changing something. Just remove it.
hxxp://www.flat-simple.com/
flat-simple.com
Trying to make a URL clickable when it's not clickable is meaningless. Bots can be easily coded to find and replace hxxp and still rip the URL from the page. Also, if you make the link text one thing and the link a true link a bot will find it because a bot will search the page source and not the viewable section.
And the code tag doesn't do anything.

Yes, but this it more to prevent webcrawlers to continue thru our page, since they only check real links, not written stuff.
They only check the <a> tags.
In that matter, the CODE tag brings much...

Sat you said that the bots can't figure out that they need to change the xx into tt but then theres also the software to change the xx into tt for you so couldn't the bots just that making the whole xx thing pointless? (I'm not sure if the bots can use that software though since I've never used a bot)
