GIF woes

so i wasn't sure if i should put this in here or the artsy section but meh...

Long story short while i love my little Lif avatar i wanted to crop and shrink a new GIF to use...(see attached) while the cropping wasn't a problem i did that bit already...but... WHY THE HELL DOES THE GIF FILE SIZE GET BIGGER WHEN I SHRINK IT!? I'm (attempting) to do this with gimp... but as you might have noticed from my captain capslock moment i haven't had luck... halp?

if anyone can help me or point me in the right direction i will reward them with a warm fuzzy fealing for being helpful... as i haven't much else to offer.

Well, I opened it in Animation Shop Pro 3 (very old, comes together with Paint Shop Pro 7), Resized it to the allowed 150x150 and chose smallest filesize (my prog reduces the amount of colors used then, which should have not much visible effect on a black-white pic).

Edit: Hmm, this looks strange in the browser now, but normal when I open it. Another try, this time with own settings on that Optimizer.

increased filesize has to do with compression algorythms.
some image sizes can be compressed better than others.
and metatags. metatags are safed in images as well.
like created with xshop delta 5 or author name, etc etc.
