ult_combo: Alright, as requested by @fijneman, the UserScript to turn LAH's hxxp links clickable: | | http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/136654 |
I opened your userscript and source code, but... how do I implement it in my browser? fijneman: install Greasemonkey plugin for Firefox, now u can press "install" button. dunno about google chrome or other browsers Thanks, fijneman. Following your red arrow in your illuminating attachment I'm lead to this opera help page --> hxxp://www.opera.com/docs/userjs/using/#writingscripts
When I have more time I'll make a little study first before I try to install ...

For Chrome, install Tampermonkey.
For Firefox, install Greasemonkey as pointed out by Fijneman.
With the appropriate extension installed in the browser, you can click the "Install" button in the userscript page.
Other browsers require different addons/plugins/configs.

Yes, some time ago firefox became too slow on my old LAHtop. BTW: couldn't you install ult's code into LAH itself?

Such bypasses are not encouraged, especially as it would make us dependent on the anonymizer service.
Not to mention some hosts display fake "file deleted" messages when you use a dereferer service. Like mediafire with anonym.to or filestube.
Until the next two planned projects are finished, there will not be an internal change in link handling.

jacxxx: Yes, some time ago firefox became too slow on my old LAHtop. Yes, nowadays Firefox takes too much RAM from the computer and processes slower than Chrome, don't even think about trying a Nightly release if the stable release is slow for you.
jacxxx: BTW: couldn't you install ult's code into LAH itself? Sat: Such bypasses are not encouraged, especially as it would make us dependent on the anonymizer service.
Not to mention some hosts display fake "file deleted" messages when you use a dereferer service. Like mediafire with anonym.to or filestube.
Until the next two planned projects are finished, there will not be an internal change in link handling. Yes, those are a couple points. Not to mention, some people dislike going through a referer service for every link and I wouldn't feel like forcing them to. Also, as implied by Sat, this would most likely require regular maintaining - checking if hosts didn't block the referer service and fixing issues which may arise etc.
Well, I'm happy Sat didn't ask me to take the script down. Seeing as it fits well within the rules (there's no referer info being forwarded), this adds an alternative to the end-user to either copy and paste the hxxp links or go through an anonymz.com link.
Sat has been considering an internal LAH referer service to don't be dependent on an external referer service, but then again I don't know how well that would fare. I guess we might take a look on that after the 2 current projects.

Well, I was initially not too happy about you publishing it, but imo, it keeps what we need so there are no concerns, objectively seen.

BTW I haven't found any bug yet. No prob.
Yes, I tested it extensively in FF and Chrome, the bugs which I referred to were all related to links inside code blocks, more specifically multiple links in a single line (which is very rare) AND only when those links would include an URL with the current www. hotlinking bug. I've fixed that by adding an extra capturing group to my regex and an IF check in the beginning of the replace function to ignore those, obviously this will probably require patching once the www. hotlinking inside code blocks gets fixed.
Of course, I might have missed some other minor bugs, so report if you find any.

@ult: I didn't succeed with my opera yet (I don't have Chrome, that one was sometimes executing javascripts endlessly). I pasted your code in a copied and emptied js file using notepad, and it seems a correct user.js file now in the correct directory, but it's not executed. May be my settings... . To be continued ...
edit: working on another PC working with Chrome I could install it in seconds.
Trying out the (opera) hxxp address above and ... it didn't work
Checking the extension list --> everything should be ok!
Trying another hxxp (the first one on the previous page, to wikipedia) it did work.
Trying again the opera hxxp --> it does work now!
edit2: Searching for a ....user.js on this PC (so I could try that on my lahtop) but it's not there.
Apparently Chrome stores the script in another way.
@frz: It seems ults script was just in time. Hope you're out of bed again soon!
edit: I just saw you are active as usual, perhaps even more

I don't really like Opera, don't get me wrong, it just hangs up my comps and take forever to load basically every page (hopefully it gets more improvements once FB buys it). But well, I'll download the latest version and try to install the script to write a step-by-step guide.
For Opera:
1. Create a folder for your usescripts. For this example, I'll create a folder named "userscripts" in the root of the C: partition. So, (for Windows 7, similar to XP/8/Vista) open My Computer > C:/ > Right click in the blank space and select New > Folder (or simply click the "New folder" button located in the menu bar right below the Windows Explorer address bar) and name the folder "userscripts".
2. With the userscripts folder created, let's get a copy of the userscript. Open my script's userscript.org page, then right-click the big green "Install" button and click "Save Linked Content As". A dialog will ask where you want to save it, go to C:/userscripts (or whichever folder you chose) and press the Save button.
3. Now that you have an userscripts folder and the script inside of it, all you have to do is follow the instructions from your linked page. Open the Opera menu > Settings > Preferences > Advanced > Content > JavaScript options, at the side of the "User JavaScript folder" field, click in the "Choose..." button. It'll bring another dialog screen, select C:/userscripts (or whichever folder you chose) and press OK, Then confirm the changes in the JavaScript options screen by pressing OK and press OK yet another time in the Preferences screen.
If you did everything correctly, just refresh (F5) your LAH page and the hxxp links as well as links inside code blocks will be clickable now as well, just tested it on Opera 12.
ps. Sorry if I'm overly detailed in some parts, I've been writing tutorials for years which means I've heard enough "not specific enough" comments on my tutorials, so I tend to go in a very detailed writing mood when I start writing tutorials now.

Installation without any problem whatsoever now
Before I try something stupid: could your other 2 LAH-scripts be useful to me? (I guess so, they have been downloaded 130 and 140 times) If so, how?

Before I try something stupid: could your other 2 LAH-scripts be useful to me? (I guess so, they have been downloaded 130 and 140 times) If so, how? They add a quick "Goto page number" box to the side of the nav bars, I guess it's useful for people whom browse these long picture threads a lot.
All you have to do is repeat the step #2 for installation it seems (followed by a page refresh [F5]), as long as you right-click the Install button and save the .user.js file to your already configured folder, Opera should automatically load it up.
The details about the difference between the 2 can be found here.
