Having glanced at a couple of youtube tutorials, I got the impression that manga was generally approached in a "projected out" rather than "interpreted in" manner. Imagination, a lot of talent and brilliant technique are only the beginnings. What seems to be going on - and please correct me if I'm wrong - is all this coupled with intense visualization. Very different from most graphical illustration which often works with and re-renders 2d reference material or fine art working from life.
So...
I thought I'd have a go at sketching without reference - no photos, drawings, life models or lay figures. I basically sat myself down with paper and pencils and a new eraser and roughed out what I could see in my head to see if I could visualize something approaching reasonable anatomy.

It proved to be an interesting experiment and it's convinced me that it's the way forward.
I know what I've done is crude - I'm not playing silly modesty games here - but on the whole I'm pleased with how it's going. I'll use at least a couple of these to work up some digital versions and maybe post them to show the difference. If I can.

No scanner, so I camera-snapped what I've done and tweaked the contrast to compensate for the uneven lighting. Not strictly loli, but I'll keep on the project and see what happens.
These are all small, low Q files but should be adequate to take to a digital stage.

There are far more in progress but I think I've flooded the topic adequately.

Thanks for your kind indulgence.

Good question. I would say that I get influenced by the occasional hentai picture I come across (I have several folders with various poses/topics) but imagination is king. Ideas pop into my mind as I'm walking the dog, daydreaming at work or sitting holding a pencil. Then I work to translate my visualization to the digital page. I occasionally use references to help (ex. use plastic models to see how the shadows would fall on curves) but a good imagination is important when you're a cartoonist. Smile You have a good beginning with your pictures. Keep it up!

Ta for the encouragement, FB. Respect.

SO..
keeping with the idea of not referring to anything outside my own head (other than what is actually being output, of course Confused ) I took the actual scrappy image as posted above and built on it, first with a layer of digital "pencil" and then alternate bits of work on similar layers of marker felt and inky pen.
'Cos I threw the colour on, I had as much work to do with an eraser as the marker. Maybe I need to do closed, selected areas next time. Living and learning. I kept the skin tones flat and cartoony. The point of the exercise is generating the outlines rather than the rendering. I'll do more with that later if I can get hold of the basics.

Anyway, it's not hentai and it's not very dynamic or sensuous but it IS my very firstest loli
(insert emoticon of loli blowing a resounding fanfare on some sort of appropriately impressive horn of some sort...) thenkyou, queekdraw

Hope she scares you as much as she does me. Smile

Well if you ask me, i work mostly from my mind, but sometimes i use reference pictures, and nowadays i collect digital paintings, to study them, becouse i'm new in this kind of art, but i want to learn it. Rolling Eyes

Oh, and a like this picture with the "badgirl" loli, especially the way that you focus on the character, and use blur on the background.
