 Hardware Question |

I need to move some stuff over to another hardrive, and I was wondering how long it would keep everything when it's not connected to a power source. Or the computer.
In a box.
It's just I don't want to move everything and come back to it six months later and find it's gone or corrupted.

A hard drive is a magnetic medium, and as such, unless you have a really huge magnet sitting on the top of the hard drive, it will keep the data theoretically forever. If you come back after 20 years, I am sure the data will still be there

Laugh if you like, but better safe than sorry, right? After all, it's taken me years to get this stuff, and it'd be a real embuggerance to find it'd disappeared one day. I only ask because I recently discovered a number of backup discs no-longer work.

The problem is, with time, the pigment disappears, elec. If you keep the dvds in a dark and (relatively) airtight place, they should hold long.
