Jacking waves off of unencrypted wireless modems

Or more like, those modems that doesn't even have WPA/WEP encryption (shoulda ask this sooner)

I can "connect", but I could not do anything; Kouhei says the internet card thinks it ws connected, when it's not...

any tips? Also, if I need to provide details, please tell me.

Well some don't have dhcp on, so you would need to enter the correct data, your IP and the dns server.
Some others simply think MAC filtering is enough and so it will let you connect but if your MAC address isnt in "the list" it doesnt let you exchange any data.

should I use dynamic or static address? and how do I set it up, DNS, WINS and all?

well, first look at what the IP of the access point is. Most standard routers have 192.168.2.1. As DNS and gateway, you put in the IP of the AP, also that one. Your own IP, if the user didnt mess with the setting too much, could be a random number on the last part, like 192.168.2.44.

As for dynamic/static. If dhcp is off then dynamic is useless.
