lol i got board and made these 5 cards for Magic the Gathering... hope you get a laugh out of them

Might I suggest you get hold of Magic set editor and learn templating, then you can make cards that look more like this.

Well, I'm almost there, my set currently has 104 cards (it's changed since I last outputed the images in case anyone noticed the collectors numbers). I probably need a second keyword effect to fill it out with obvious cycles.

I'm even keeping limited in mind with distribution of rares and common/ uncommon cycles.

A) Wow at the picture on Midnight Faeries! Does it come any larger?

B) Holy shit, you're actually doing it. Magic is something that I love and know lots about... if you need a hand coming up with cards, balancing, etc, give us a yell!

C) Ravage... reminds me a lot of Guerilla Tactics, but inverted... hm. But the 2nd ability... why didn't you just make the card cost 1R, deal 2 to target creature or player, and have a kicker, 1R, +2 damage? That'd work exactly the same, wouldn't it? Except that you might add "cannot be countered if you don't pay the kicker"?

A) Yes, yes it does.

B) I do need help, if you know any other 'open minded' magic players who could test the cards to make sure they're balanced, that'd be awesome. I also still need a good second keyword, you'd be surprised how much design space there is even for something as simple as backlash.

C) The discard effect on Ravage is very much intentional because 1) I like to avoid keyword bleed unless it's unavoidable and 2) Not actually being a spell has an awful lot of ramifications, such as Teferi avoidance and alternative counters (I love Voidmage husher, it's one of the few cards from Time Spiral I actually liked.)

Please note that I fixxed the text on Naruto since I outputted these.

Let's see...

Scan the Horizon: Insanely overpowered, I think. It can easily become 2 land a turn for a while... which is scary outside of symmetrical enchantments, like Rites of Flourishing from Future Sight.

Round Shield: Waaay out of colour for Green, even if it's protecting it's own permenants, that's more a white effect... and even then, this is a ludicrously powerful counter. Even if you take away the cantrip ability and 1 colourless mana from the price, we've got what's almost a 1G Counterspell... despite Counterspell being overpowered in Standard, and replaced by Cancel, which costs 1UU.

Foton's Round Shield: Dunno what game it's for, 'cause it's not Magic the Gathering.

Decieved Innocent: The first ability (re: sacrifice) is completely redundant... it needs to be worded differently if you meant "If you would sacrifice more than one permenant to pay a cost, sacrifice ~ instead. If you do, you may count ~ as however many creatures you want for the purposes of that cost." Unfortunately, I don't think this works, and even if it does, it's stupidly overpowered. I can't think of a spell that requires you to sacrifice X creatures to deal X damage, but I'm sure it's out there. I do like the 2nd ability, though, it's like Regeneration, but counts for sacrificing, and still allows our loli shaman to go to the 'yard.

Commune Outside: Really, really expensive recurring card draw... hm. 2U = +1 card, 2U+2UU=4UUU = +2 cards, and you can loop from there. You can split the cost over multiple turns, which is nice, but surely there are much, much cheaper ways of drawing +1 card a turn than 2U or 2UU? Interesting design, though, I must say. Would be more interesting, I think, if instead of card draw, it was a bounce effect? Recurring bounce for 2U a turn at rare, limited to once a turn, would be quite nice. I dunno if it's worth making an RFG card come back repeatedly, though. I'm sure there's another way to achieve the effect.

Ravenous Nezumimi: Ha, love the picture. But why is it White? It looks like it'd make a fine black card - it's a discard effect and a lifegain effect for said discard... Should probably be at least uncommon if it's gonna be White, though I'd love to hear your explaination as to why it's appropriate for this card to be in the colour of the People. Though, I must say, as a white card, the art fits beautifully Very Happy

Deadwing Angel: Oh, nice! Instead of making the effect permenant, perhaps it should be optional during your upkeep, and you only have to pay the life if you make everything fall down? Aside from being a 5 mana 4/4 Unblockable in Black, with the exception of creatures with Reach (which noone likes, excepting Thornweald Archer from Future Sight), which seems slightly undercosted (add 1 or B to the cost?), we've a very nice, very flavourful card with fantastically appropriate art.

Rubber Ring: Cute girl... that's insanely hard to kill. Slightly undercosted at present; I'd make the equip cost 2 and the mana cost 2 or 3, and then we've a balanced card for what it does.

Sparkster, how long've you been playing Magic, and do you still play? I've been playing since Darksteel, and play with people at Uni all the time. I'd love to help you out with testing, though... what timezone are you in? Maybe we could have a game.

I'd suggest you reread Scan the Horizon, for one thing, it requires you to have a land before it does anything but cantrip, and using it multiple times in one turn hurts more and more, also, if you get a spell off it, you have to pay life to play it that turn. The purpose of the card is really as a sort of neo rampant growth that can power you out of a late game landclump in a pinch, solving the problem of such cards being dead draws.

Round shield, while not mine, I can see is basically avoid fate with 2 tacked on for the cantrip, which is perfectly normal for green.

Deceived innocent requires slightly more understanding of the rules to get, but what it does is act as a buffer for any card which sacrifices itself as part of the cost for an effect, for example, Mouth of Romom, Ghost Quarter or Mogg Fanatic.

Commune outside is about as agressively costed as it could be, you want this sort of recuring long term card advantage at instant speed, be prepared to pay 5U for the privilage, and that one is stopped by a counterspell, this isn't. The original version was actually a card that could wish itself out of your sideboard, now that was a dilemma.

Ravanous Nezumimi is a very white card, due to the very well meaning facism it represents, think about it, everybody, even you is forced to do something seemingly good for them, but giving up other options to do so.

Deadwing Angel is costed about right for today, being aggressive but not quite hitting the zone of being too slow, fitting well into the suicide black theme, so many things could go wrong for it, from pacifism to lifegain to your opponent unloading burn in your face, or it's face after your upkeep.

Rubber Ring is a limited only disruption card, nobody plays pump exclusively for the backend in constructed, and it's only bordering on being an irritating bomb for aggressive decks to deal with, which is why it's uncommon.

Just so you know, I got into the game around the time Darksteel came out, and I still play, although I speciallise mainly in limited.

I may post all the cards I've got so far a bit later on.
