Japanese locale settings for games made easy (Windows OSes) |
Quote |
Since people repeatedly complain about issues with changing the language and everything, I might as well post this which I use. Basically what it does is add the option to launch the .exe with japanese locale settings via the right click menu and avoid having to open applocale every time, though you still need to have it installed in order to use it and thus it is included with it in case you don't already have it.
Note: I didn't create this so I can't give advice on any issues that arise, but considering the simplicity involved, I doubt there would be any

I recently got myself a laptop with Vista on it, and since it worked without a hitch, I can say that it should work for everyone in Vista, though I have disabled things here and there to make Vista somewhat decent to my tastes so again, any issues, just post them in the support forum.
For games in which Applocale won't work, there is also NTLEA. Pretty much the same thing. Run it once, tick off "Add to Shortcut Menu" and then you're good to go.

March 23, 2010: Both my systems have migrated over to Windows 7, one running 32-bit and one running 64-bit, and I run applocale on both just fine. Same as Vista, can't assure compatibility for everyone, but I didn't tear apart 7 the way I did Vista so it should be fine. NTLEA however is not compatible with Windows 7 64-bit. Have not tried it with 32-bit yet.

The sendspace keeps saying this to me:
The download link has been updated (error: #10).
You may now download the file.
It could just be me, but this is still really cool so thanks bastille =D

Yeah, the sendspace link works fine for me so the issue must be on your end only... I knew there would be some problems with hosts regardless which is why I used two, would have been three but MU didn't properly upload it the first time and I was too lazy to reupload it despite how small it is

Well, there is the obvious one for starters. You need to verify your windows to get it from microsoft so people with non-legit windows can't get apploc from there...
And then there is the whole point of this topic, and that is that the other file included adds the ability to directly run apploc with japanese as the settings choice just by right clicking on an exe and selecting the option to do so...
So yeah, they COULD use that and use apploc, manually browse to the file every time, and choose the language every time, or just browse to the exe in explorer, and right click it to do all that... So unless you enjoy pointless routines, there is a major difference between the file I'm giving and regular apploc

Ok let me update this with an even better app. Download this tool papploc.msi which is the modified applocale that doesn't have a stupid confirmation everytime you launch a program with applocale.

Woot! I now have Japanese Language set all the time and no ¥ Symbol for the my backslash!!! If you wish to fix this I have hacked the default tahoma font for windows to do this. I have zipped this font just reboot in safe mode and delete the original tahoma font (warning: fonts will all go bold and funky after doing this until reboot) and unzip this modified tahoma.ttf into your windows\fonts directory.
It's nice being in Japanese regional mode and I am no longer able to tell I am everything looks and runs normal just as if I was in normal language mode.

I just change the default unicode settings and don't get any problems except when I'm installing games, then I just switch it to English and back again.
Control Panel-->Regional and Language Options
Then click on the tab all the way on the right called "Advanced"
Then click the arrow on the drop down menu and select "Japanese"
and click "OK".
I don't mean to be a smart-ass but I don't know if everyone else is doing it differently.

Eastern language support doesn't come default installed on most machines and to install it you need the original OS disc, something most people also don't have/lose so they find themselves out of luck with your method.
