Well we discussed things and came up with the following:

The world is a water world. IE: lots of water with few islands.

The world itself is populated mostly by demi-humans. Humans aren't the majority, atleast pureblood humans.

We will have a dating sytem of some kind. Thousand Arms-ish has been discussed, but it's not set in stone. There are certainly other models out there we can use (SO series, CRC, Azure Dreams, etc).

Sounds a little weird, though, making most of it water, gives you an isolated enviroment for the game, kinda like the new Zelda:PH. The islands themselves can have different isolated features, like an own typical enviroment.

The Grand List of Console Role Playing Game Cliches:
There's always a fire dungeon, an ice dungeon, a sewer maze, a misty forest, a derelict ghost ship, a mine, a glowing crystal maze, an ancient temple full of traps, a magic floating castle, and a technological dungeon.

Also, try not to put too much One piece in this one, as the main char sounds like it a lot.

I've never seen One Peice, I dont even know what it is. Actually, I'm not a huge anime fan so I can guarantee you that you wont be seeing any knock-offs here.

Just so everyone knows, the story is more or less complete, so we no longer need writers. I will be taking a week or two long hiatus from the development of the game so that I can concentrate fully on finals.

As a nice little surprise I'll be posting a screenshot of the game after finals are over.

The project is on slight hiatus while I brush up on my skills. I've been trolling the RMXP forum lately, trying to figure everything out. Also getting warmed back up with my spriting and illustration skills.

If you're intrested in mapping, we could definitely use your assistance. The story is coming along pretty solidly, but further imput is always considered.

I'm a 2d/3d animator and I have worked with rpg maker xp. There is a specal ruby script that I stumbled in to That allows you to play animations. well if your intorested in having an animator onboard just say the word and ill add you to my MSN MSNGER

I doubt that kind of content will be present in the game, but I'm sure to have endless rmxp questions.

The more I check out the rm forums the more I realize that rmxp has endless possibilities. I really want to do something unique, but that will require many complex custom systems. Either I'll learn the scripting required or I'll ask for help. Everyone is very helpful and knowledgeable there, fortunately.

But anyway, the more help I can get from here, the better. This was meant to be a project for the forum, and I'd like to keep the team exclusive to here. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated, and you'll be credited whether or not you decide to join "fully". Thank you for your interest.

Edit for clarity: There will be no 3d content in the game at all. Any cutscenes will be done in 2d, semi traditional animation. Any artists are welcome to help in the process, but you dont have to worry about it for a while.

1. Yes
2. Yes, (RMXP is a 2d game maker)
3. I really don't see what the difference is. I'm going through great lengths to craft an interesting and solid story, and I am also seriously considering a Tales-esque combat system, which is not a simple system to say the least. Nothing is written in stone yet though.
4. Not decided yet. I really hate random encounters, and so no matter how popular it is, it will not be in a game that I am a part of. Contact-based will be difficult as well, since you can only move in the 4 cardinal directions. I'm searching for a possible solution or workaround for this.

I can say that many of the battles will be scripted, (story sensitive). There will not be much of any fighting of random monsters to level-grind. Perhaps this is what you meant by combat vs. story based. You will be spending much more time playing through the story than you do in battle, but the battles will be exciting and skill/reflex based.

I want a combat system that allows you to move a character in real time, with the rest being AI driven. Like in Tales games you'll likely be able to adjust how the AI characters perform. There will be one attack key, most likely and hot-keys for your skills, (which you can customize). Ideally there will be context-sensitive moments when you can hit a key to parry at the right moment, (driven by an onscreen cue like in Zelda: TP). The reason I want this type of combat is because I want there to be a strong focus on protecting your loli female party members, which will be more or less magic-using and vulnerable to attack. A real time system would give the greatest sense of urgency I am looking for. Don't worry though, the girls will not be stupid, they'll do their best to stay out of danger unless you change their strategy to do otherwise.

Hopefully this wasn't too bulky of an answer for you. I am very open to suggestions. If you think you have a better idea, let me have it. I'm sure the other guys want to kill me right about now for wanting such difficult things in this game. Laughing
