Wow what an amazing thread. I got so many pointers here. But I still can't draw this, it doesn't help that my attempts make me feel like I am drawing a dwarf, an ugly one at that. Razz

Anyways, do you pros here have any suggestions on how I can improve on this and perhaps get to the thighs and feet? Oh and the genitals seem a bit disproportionate as well. Any tips and suggestions are welcome!

Tinkered with the mouth on the second one. I think it's better. Comments?

Post not bad Quote
Actually clouddave, that's not too bad for a start. I think what you really need is just to make it look a little more animated. When I draw I start with a stick figure just to outline a pose. Then I draw 3d shapes, at least thats how i picture the shapes in my head, over the figure, then add detail. You have pretty good proportions, especially in the face, but the subject just looks flat. I developed my technique using Google to find anime drawing tutorials. There's tons of great stuff out there. Keep practicing!!! I look forward to viewing a thread by you.

Hey guys, so I took some of your advice into account and still can't draw a body for nuts. Finally I kinda used PAINT to cut the face out, draw it there in bolder outline and then I pasted it onto a work I had commissioned to me by a good friend Fairwind (some of you might be familiar with his work). No worries of plagiarism since this is art he made for me and only me. I might share it with you guys someday as well. Anyhow, I did some cut and paste and then modified the body a little since the original was too manga-ish. I have to say I am rather pleased with the results.
As such, I am offering it as a kinda 'template' for the more pro guys to mess around. You can do anything you want to my little asian angel. An example which I made in the second post is a bondage scenario. Rudimentary but I think it's kinda sexy. Do let me know what you guys think and hope someone uses it or colours it or something.

I would like to apologize for not doing more work for LAH but the privilege to do lolicon work is more often than not outside of my reach. It is frowned on where I live and while my life is easy at the moment it is chaotic. I notice that only ten or less members regularly post here and I feel like I could contribute more if only I could work in the open and not draw these pictures in haste and secrecy because working under that pressure lowers the quality of the work.

We seem to have lost some great artists along the way and I hope that doesn't mean they are in trouble, and after all my awful rants I have concluded to stay here at LAH for better or for worse. I urge that anyone with the slightest amount of drawsomeness in them to nurture it because it is a dying bastion of freedom to draw as we please in our own secret corners.

I hear ya 4stray. I have an art book full of stuff to scan and upload, but I just can't find the time. Although my wife knows about my artwork I'm not keen on sharing everything I do with her so it's difficult to find the time to be alone so I contribute. I think it was May of 2012 since I last posted some work and it's December already. Almost a year, kind of depressing.

Post Staying motivated Quote
Hello all,

To further the topic 4Stray brought up the other day I'm wondering what other artists do to stay motivated and inspired. I recently posted an image dump to my "Things I'd like to share" thread and thought I'd have a lot more to post than I did since the last post I made was 7 months ago. It turns out my sketch book is filled with a lot of half done drawings that I started and ended up not feeling "it" so I'd move on to something else.

I feel like a lot of the stuff I'm doing is same old same old and am suffering a bit from "artist block". I don't get many comments in my thread so I'm not really sure if what I'm doing is working for the community or not. I feel I've developed to a point where I'm not really getting any better and need some coaching to continue improving.

I'm posting here because I feel this is an issue a lot of artists must face at one time or another. So there are two things I'm looking for. 1) How do other artists stay motivated (please post replays in this thread) and 2) I'd really appreciate some coaching; comments, critiques and suggestions in my own thread (hxxp://lah.li/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15172).

First off, I don't consider myself an artist as all I do is writing, fixing, analysing and optimizing code. But in my area, writing quality code can be considered an art, so I guess I'm eligible to contribute. Razz

I feel like I can relate to your "doing the same old stuff" - I've been making forms for 10 years (since I was mainly a desktop programmer) and now as a web developer I'm currently tasked with writing a grotesque management system made 90%+ of forms. I've been so sick of those forms that I haven't touched this project's code for 2 weeks.

When I'm bored, I usually try something new (new techniques, new style) and make something new. If I'm not inspired to try something new, I just share my knowledge with fellow developers and join discussions, these usually point me to developing something new or at least contributing on existing projects.

As for your art, Vanderhoth, I could say that your style is quite unique. I just don't feel like judging artists' works as I can barely draw a stickman.

Staying motivated is a hard thing to me.
I often lose my creating will, and stop doing anything for weeks or months. But my head is always full with ideas and it leads to the reactivation. Smile

I love this forum but often feel the same as you Vanderhoth, when working with a picture 10-20 hours and nobody comments on it. But my luck is i do this pictures for my pleasure, and because it's good to see them finished.
And i think ult_combo has right, about the people don't want to criticize others because they don't want to misjudge.
or (f.e. me) because don't have the adequate knowledge in this common language ( english Smile ).
- i often feels that i can't express my feelings and thoughts, so i say nothing -

My only advice to everyone, if you feel/want/wish to create something, than do it! And leave the negative feelings behind! Keep it up!

Seven

When I feel a block, I usually doodle without thinking much until a few pages are entirely filled up with any kind of stuff.

When I lose motivation for something, I think it's no good to force yourself. Art can't be forced. If you try and force yourself, there's a good chance that your drawing will lack something, that little spark that makes a difference. At times, I don't touch my pencils for a while, but I don't like it too much because it might be too hard to take them back, or too long before you feel motivated again. Personnaly, I feel it's nice to take a request from someone that would ask you something specific, especially if that's not something you usually do. It's a good way to get rid of the "same old" feeling. Well, of course it's best if you have a slight interest in doing the request itself. Razz

As for the lack of comment, well... it's a bit frustrating at times, but as Seven said, it's best if you don't post them for the sake of getting comments. Even though it's always nice to get people impressions of your work, it's important that you don't let yourself discouraged when no one comment your work.

Been a while since I draw something more than a few doodles myself, but it's mostly because I've been busy with christmas and new year. As a result, my Xmas drawing got delayed and only now do I found the time to get started on it. And having a bit of difficulties as I chose a rather complicated composition (I like to challenge myself with things I find difficult to draw, only to prove myself I can do it).

Hi there. I want to encourage you guys to stay in practice and contribute your artwork when you can. It is all too easy to find other distractions and reasons to NOT draw but if you want to keep or improve your skills you have to stay in practice. I drew a lot until my anime club folded and then I went for 15 years without drawing much of anything seriously. (At first I had grad school studies and work, then later I filled my free time with video games.) Then the Internet came around and I started visiting certain websites and saw other fan art drawn by Western artists. I thought to myself that I could do as well and gave it a shot. My early pictures were weak but I improved over time. I have been fortunate that my series has proved popular but I can tell you that roughly only 1 to 2% of people will leave comments. Crying or Very sad

As far as inspiration goes, for a generic X-rated picture, I might see another artist's work that gives me an idea for my adaptation of it. But I like my characters and it is easier to think of stories that involve them when I "get in character". It is a challenge for me to think like a kid but I like the result so far. There are plenty of erotic stories out there too if you need inspiration from them. So there are times when I would like nothing better than to spend my evening playing Guild Wars 2 or finishing Skyrim but then the images in my mind demand that I start drawing them. And I don't want to be punished by Lily. Laughing

I realize that you probably don't have the luxury of living alone in an apartment like me but you can find time to draw if you are willing to reduce other distractions like TV and games. Ultimately it's up to you to determine your interest and find the time to do your hobby. Smile Good luck!

I've been a bit frustrated lately.

I am trying my best to follow Japanese sensibilities in my line work and cartooning, but even though I feel like I would fit right in on Pixiv, I am not on the high level of skill that I wish to be.

These artists in Japan are sharing work, talking about it, showing each other how to do things. I don't live in Japan, and I am the teacher and classroom all by myself. This is lonely, frustrating, annoying, and sad.

At the same time, "Creativity is a child of solitude." Being alone has benefits, like getting to explore any subject without being judged.

I really don't like using automated lines, as with the pen tool, like many artists do, but at the same time I want to have a super clean look. I simply must start using automated lines, these "perfect" looking ink strokes in everyone's work is an asset that I need for my work.

Sometimes I let things get me down, but I just remember the old saying; "Nothing worthwhile is easy." I'm not bad at doing this, and I'm not going to be the artist I want to be without becoming better. I have fallen in love with both the subject and the production itself, and since the subject is the perfection of loli, then the pressure is rather high and frustration is understandable.

Every subtle line contributes to the whole for better or for worse the way I see it, and I am simply "not there yet."

Anyone who's ever crumpled up their project after spending hours on it knows what I'm talking about, the feeling of "why am I doing this," the frustration of reaching for perfection, being envious of people with higher levels of skill, and not knowing what habits are good and what habits are not.

Don't feel bad. Don't think of it as competition. This isn't sword fighting; being a mediocre artist probably won't endanger your life. Sometimes I have to remind myself to just relax and let that glorious evil take over my hands.

I haven't drawn in over 10 years, but I felt like drawing recently, so today I drew this. Unfortunately, my sketching didn't go the way I had hoped (I was going for "Kindergartener"). What do you think? Is it savable enough to attempt continuing the drawing as a loli? Or should I just draw her as a teen and try again on a new drawing?

I wasn't, or never been, much of a drawler till recently. I've only drawn a few times in my life and it always looked very very very amateur. Recently I've actually been picking it up as a hobby because I admire the skills of an artist. It started a few months while I was looking at some lolicon and various other things. Since then I've been drawing and practicing as much as possible and I'm making a tremendous amount of progress. I've just about mastered hands and feet but that means nothing if I can't properly draw the arms, legs, and body. There are many references I can use but I'm still unsure how to draw them as the style changes from artist to artist.

What I'm also looking for is a guide or someone who's willing to help me develop my own style. Is anyone willing to be an on site teacher and aide?

Bellow is one of my most recent drawings coupled with my first so you can see the improvement as well as give me some advice.

My first drawing from a couple months ago.
