After some intensive practice (lol) using your helpful links forsaken, this is what I managed to come up with. I'm still not too good with the clothes but I gave it my best shot. I thought it looked cute. Any CC would be helpful.

Sorry to make that first part sound epic...

Lol sorry it's taken me so long to reply, I've had very little time to come to LAH with. I posted comments in your thread, I really hope they help!

Lol @ Proles, I love to help people! Feel free to ask for anything else, I'm not that great of an artist, but I know a lot of stuff that may help most people.

I'm considering starting a step-by-step guide to help people how to understand how to start drawing loli's better. If any of you would be interested in something like that, PM me or something, if enough people are interested, I'll put some time in to it! =D

Hi there, this is my first post in the LAH artists forum.

I don't really consider myself much of an artist (I've always focused on writing and music) but occasionally I get some inspiration and jot something down on paper. However, I have always been in awe of those people who can draw masterfully - and It's been a hidden desire of mine to be a much better artist.

I do have photoshop, and I am decent at using it too (I use it for web design). However, I don't have a tablet, and I don't have a scanner. So, my drawing has been limited to hand sketches and have rarely if ever seen the light of a computer screen.

That said, I want to get better at, for now, just drawing with a pencil and a paper. Later on, if I see any progress, I'll try to move forward.

To give you an idea of where I'm at, I just drew a picture about 5 minutes before making this post, and I took a pic of it with a girlfriend's camera. I didn't quite finish the picture (I rarely do... mostly because I lose interest or can't figure out how to make something work) but I think this is a pretty good example of the stuff I've been doing for the past year.

Any comments on things that could be improved, and better yet, how to improve them, would be most appreciated.

You should just open an artist thread, I think.
This thread is for people asking questions about how to draw things, etc.

As for your pic, I could barely see everything, so I hope
you don't get mad that I fixed the lighting a bit.

Seems to be traced from a foto to me...

Yeah, I took a picture of it with a camera so it was a bit hard to see. And it is traced, but of the previous sketch. I don't like seeing all those small lines and eraser marks. Could I do it another way?

Just looking for honest feedback from other artists regarding the 'painterly' look I'm going for in my coloring right at the moment, so any suggestions and/or observations will be greatly appreciated. Smile

Well mmh... I cannot say much except that it looks so great xD
I wonder how it'll look with more contrasted borders though.

But anyways, even if you gave up coloring like this,
can I ask you to tell us how you did have such a great result at least?

Well, if you really want to know.

(please note that you need photoshop)

1) Create a new layer behind the multiplied base drawing layer (if it's the background, double click it in the layer rollout to rename it, now you can go behind it), you'll be using heaps of them so make sure you name it something relevant.

2) Choose a solid brush and color the areas relevant to the layer (I suggest doing the skin first).

3) Magic wand the area in the layer.

4) swap your color swatch (hotkeyed to x) and inkdrop your base color, this gives you a failsafe.

5) Click on your color swatch to bring up the fading window, select a slightly darker version of your color (I recommend moving diagonally towards the bottom right corner).

6) Open the brushes rollout and select a compound brush, or specked one, change you spacing if necessary to give the blend look you want.

7) Shade all the area not directly illuminated with your chosen brush, then use the smudge tool to give any finesse you want.

Cool Bring up the fading window again and select another. slightly darker version, then add in deeper shadowed areas (use your discretion to figure this out), repeat until satisfied.

9) hit ctrl+d to deselect

10) go to your base drawing layer, magic wand (tolerance 0) the white area and hit ctrl+shift+i to invert the selection.

11) create a new layer named 'linework' above the linework layer.

12) use the dripper tool to select the colored areas near the lines and draw in the new lines to match with the coloring.

13) Deselect and hide the base drawing layer (click the eye icon in the layer rollout), then use the smudge tool to blend it into the color, smudge along the outline in short bursts to create a slight fraying.

14) Unhide the base drawing layer and hide the linework layer. Create another layer for the next element you wish to color.

repeat as needed until finished with the element in question.

15) select all the layers that make up the element (including the linework, but not the base drawing) and merge the selected layers.

16) Magic wand the empty area of the element and invert your selection, create a new layer above it.

17) Lower the trasparancy of the new layer and select whatever color you want your secondary light source to be, draw it in roughly.

1Cool Deselect and use the smudge tool to blend the new highlights in.

and that's it, annoying as all hell.

Just thought I'd mention to any one trying to create their own CG. I use GIMP for my work. It's a free tool. Takes some getting use to, but it does a lot of what photoshop does.

I've posted some of my own work in an artist thread hxxp://littleangelshentai.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15172. If you'd like to see some of what you can do with GIMP.

Google it.

Post Decensoring Guide Quote
Hi everyone,
I thought I'd share something that helped me learn about decensoring/ drawing vaginas, and penises.
Its not a complete step by step guide to decensoring, but it gives some tips, and ideas that I found rather useful in my ventures.

hxxp://gelbooru.com/index.php?page=forum&s=view&id=214

If you plan on decensoring an image, PLEASE for the love of god, do your homework on the anatomy (where the vagina is located exactly, the average sizes, which way the vaginal passage goes etc etc).
The last thing you want, is a stomach vagina... -_-

You should also do your homework on vaginal anatomy.
Do some image searches, look at how the vagina is layed out, and get all the bits and pieces right.

Here are a couple of pictures, for vaginal anatomy(DRAWN pictures, NOT photos):
hxxp://www.medicalook.com/systems_images/Vagina_large.jpg
hxxp://www.labiaplastysurgery.org/images/Vulvar_anatomy.jpg

Note: the same advice goes for decensoring a penis... do your homework, otherwise, you could end up with something that looks wrong...

I've been semi-professionally 'tinkering' for a few years now and the first thing that I would tell anyone is that you do NOT need Photoshop right at the beginning! hxxp://mypaint.intilinux.com/ offers an impressive package at no cost and it runs on most platforms. The brushes are excellent and much better than those for Photoshop (IMO).

Instead of spending all of that money to make Adobe wealthy I recommend investing in a quality graphics tablet. Used is highly recommended with the caveat that you are able to return it for a full refund if it is not as described.

From there visit a few of the online art courses and make note of the importance of 'heads' in dimensions. These are typically western art sites so they don't always apply to anime but they do offer basics that apply to all drawing. Specifically, a knee does not turn backwards even in Anime unless it is broken.

From there you may easily view from the hundreds of images that you like best. Then tailor your style to what you like. That usually makes things easy because you are able to snip 'parts and pieces' from multiple images and to use the layering system of MyPaint to zoom in, scale up, scale-down and so forth so that the images that you 'build from' are the same images that you already like. It makes understanding the essentials easy because you are not forced to create the whole thing from scratch. Just remember to adjust your opacity from master images to your copies and you won't exactly trace but you will keep things to scale.

It takes time and more than boatloads of patience for your images to look as good as the 'professional' images that we have all come to know and adore.

You can easily see in the attached image that it is very rough indeed. (My tablet died so I was forced to use a standard mouse.) You still get the idea though and most of the instruction sites out there have at least one good idea. This image was to become an angel for LAH but when Sat never got back to me I assumed that LAH already had all of the angels that it needs so it never left the initial stage. Still, you can see where I used 'the lines system' to keep my proportions to the scale that met my needs and you can use the same 'system' on any drawing that you choose to create.

What took me less than an hour might take a new artist a couple of days and there is nothing wrong with that! Just learning the basics of drawing hands and/or feet can take months! You WILL get the hang of it and with each new 'step' that you master the satisfaction doubles or triples. Just refuse to give up and you'll be creating new characters and series before you know it!

I hope that this helps.

Just one update...

This is the lightly 'fleshed out' version of the original file. It contains no 'age specific' characteristics at this point and could be made Loli or non-Loli at the artist's whim. It does appear to be preggers though. Wink Still, this is really the 'next step' where base, highlights and lowlights are added.

From this point it is very easy to add hair, wings, color in the eyes and so forth. In this pic I chose a high one to two o'clock light source in front of the character. The heavier shading on the head is there because this is the largest single object in the image and as such will require deeper shadows to create full depth.

For this image I would add the backdrop and additional features before completing the blend. That is because as it stands this is a three color image so making adjustments is extremely easy until the blending takes place. A tall tree to the left from the character's perspective would alter the shading and require deeper shadows and until the character's tone is blended that's as easy as it gets.

Again, I hope that this helps and possibly encourages others to test the limits of their abilities.
