I think i am doing something wrong here. All i get is a sort of gallery mode. The description seems to indicate a visual novel mode kind of thing maybe? Is there only a gallery?

I'm pretty sure there's only the gallery. I haven't played it in a while, but if it's the same as Tofu Soft's other games, which I have played recently, then yes it'll be gallery only.
