A lot of people are unaware of what a hash is, and how mega uses it.
I say it's not a password, and people shouldn't receive warning for trying to communicate it.

This is difficult, and I agree with you, bbo.
People have only recently started to use it like that. We should make sure the rules reflect this practice.
However, as things currently stand, the field the code is at is the same as the password, and should be treated as such when dealing with people having questions.
I will make sure to handle it correctly within the next day.

How about the uploader posting the full link (including hash)? It is still just a URL, and posting password-less files is not against the rules.

It may be true it's the same location, but if the people believe it for a password and can't even reach the download in the first place, what are they to do but ask?
There should be a rule entry ("How do I download?") especialy for people unaware of anything.

The first draft of this post has been discarded. rewriting....
I am not trying to undermine anything, I am just conscious of the fact the current rules forbid to explain how the download link is incomplete and has to be merged. Despite the download section rules post's added template, it is unlikely a user commonly refered to as "dumbest assumed user" or "Luser" is able to recognize the actual code as it looks as if someone randomly slammed their head on the keyboard

Why not add an annotated screenshot of example downloads (mega and password separate)? If guests cant see images anyway, it'll help clueless registered users.
