Post Downloading Pixiv.net animated files Quote
Hi guys,

I see that Pixiv.net now allows users to upload animated files. I assume that these are either gifs or swfs.

Is there any way to download these? Selecting "Save file as" from the right-context menu only appears to let you save the background file ("canvas.png")

Not that I have seen...Some artists sometimes give a link to download them but other than that, I don't know. It looks like some strange pixiv specific format.

IIRC the "animated files" are actually a bunch of static images which are sequentially drawn in a loop into an HTML5 canvas element.

Last time I checked, you can download a zip file containing all static images (frames) of the animation with a simple trick:

EvilDevil:
pixiv can handle animations now
hxxp://www.pixiv.net/search.php?s_mode=s_tag&word=うごイラ+百合

from 4chan /u/

"Okay, the easiest way to save these is to just run the following Javascript in the browser console while on the illustration page you want to download:
window.location=pixiv.context.ugokuIllustFullscreenData.src

You can also save it as a bookmark like this:
javascript:window.location=pixiv.context.ugokuIllustFullscreenData.src;

Once you have the frames you could make a GIF or WebM out of them I suppose."

I dont know how to make gifs of this, but maybe someone will find a use for them.

See this related post I've made some time ago: http://lah.li/p/322530
Back then, I think I've used hxxp://mothereffinganimatedgif.com/ to assemble the images into a gif.

I believe there should be browser extensions which make this easier if you look around. Razz

Used to save them frame-by-frame by manually pressing stop at each frame and save. Quite laborious.

Glad to know there are alternative ways to do this. Gonna give it a try soon.

EDIT:

I can't make that javascript trick to work.

I'm using Firefox, experimenting with this pic:

hxxp://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=44402002

And paste "javascript:window.location=pixiv.context.ugokuIllustFullscreenData.src;", enter, nothing happens. Must have done something wrong.

Yeah, Firefox no longer executes JS in the address bar correctly ( hxxps://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=656433 ).
You can press F12 to open the DevTools, then open its Console tab and paste the code (without the "javascript:" part) and press Enter. This should work for Chrome, Firefox and IE at least.

I have firefox version 32 and the bookmark trick works for me. I realize that this isn't the newest firefox version as I had to actually downgrade previously due to 32.01 being incompatible with several of my firefox addons (such as load tabs progressively, which normally I have set to loading new tabs when I change tabs or loading a new page. But the update made it where I had to specifically click on one of the new tabs, then click on a completely unrelated tab for it to load any tabs. Slowed my workflow considerably. And I need LTP because I open a lot of tabs, and it works in my favor to have it load tabs progressively instead of all at once, especially if my browser session and I have to restore my session.)

Anyway, what I did was went to show all bookmarks and under unsorted bookmarks (probably under any section would work as well), I clicked add New Bookmark, and under location I pasted that code. You can name the bookmark what you want and when you come to a pixiv page with the gif you want you click the bookmark.

Late update to this, I've discovered you can downlaod the animations using a downloader (e.g. Video DownloadHelper) - they're mp4 files.
