Post Problem launching program Quote
Hey guys, so I've just downloaded Mahotama 4 from Ult Combo's H-Games Collection. I watched it download successfully and followed all the instructions for the installation. It looked like everything was going great, but then the problems started. Whenever I try to launch the game it just cycles and then does nothing. The game doesn't start, I don't get an error message, nothing. I checked the task manager to see if the program was at least running, but I was unable to find anything. Before anyone asks, yes, I've set my system local to japanese. I've had this problem with another Mahotama game (dunno which one, but when I was able to play it I noticed a lot of handjobs). Anyways, if someone could help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hey there Razz

IIRC those games only run in Windows XP. If you're using Windows Vista/7/8 you can run the games in a VM. Install a virtualization software such as VMware or VirtualBox, then download a Windows XP disk (e.g. from pirate bay) and install it in the VM and you're ready to go. Razz

Also check if the crack is applied correctly.

You mean the Start.exe nodvd.dat thing? Yeah, checked that, and can't I run in in XP compatibility mode? Like I said, I ran the one before that just fine. I'm using windows 7 btw.

It sometimes helped for me to run the nodvd and then the original exe when this happened.

Yeah, compat mode may work for some of them, but they were designed to run on actual WinXP I believe. You should be able to use a XP VM to run those which compat mode does not work for.

Well I've tried everything I can think of and it still doesn't work, so when my net speeds up later tonight I'll download VMware. The only problem so far is what kind of XP disk I need. Are we talking a startup disk, recovery disk, or the actual disk containing the OS? Also, how much space will this take up? The PC I'm running this on doesn't have the largest amount of ROM. Especially with all the music and games I've installed. I could try to clear some up but I need to know how much it'll take before I do anything.

Actual disk containing the OS, yeah.
The XP disk is about 600~700mb if I recall correctly. I tend to use an actual Japanese XP (e.g. hxxp://thepiratebay.se/torrent/4172883/Windows_XP_Professional_with_SP3_VL_Japanese) so that it can also run region-locked games (for some games, changing the system locale is not enough). But if you just intend to play Mahotama (or in case you're not familiar enough with XP to use it with Japanese language), any Windows XP language should be enough to run Mahotama as long as you change the system locale to Japanese if I recall correctly.
VMware Player is free and small, not much to worry there. I personally use a cracked VMware Workstation, but VMware Player is probably better for your use case (free & smaller).
The thing which will take most of your HD space is the VM's virtual HD. You will need to make it large enough to fit the OS (XP is about 2gb installed IIRC), the game(s) you want to play (2~4GB per Mahotama I think) and I'd also give it some more spare space just in case (e.g. you may need space to copy the installer to the VM as well. It may work to just copy the game files over to the VM, but I haven't tried that).

You don't need much RAM to run a XP VM, I usually give my XP VMs about 512~2gb (depending on how much RAM your PC has) and the games run just fine. Be sure to leave at least 700mb~1gb free RAM for your host OS (Windows 7) to not freeze/slow down while running the VM.

Alright so I've got VMware set up and the torrent downloaded. What now? I've got an ISO and MD5 file. Is there a thread already answering this? If so I'd appreciate a pointer, if not, I don't suppose you could help?

Edit: Figured it out, but now it's asking for a key code, and I have no idea what I'm doing. Can I bypass this? Do I need a crack or what?

Did you manage to install the game in the VM? If so, there should be a folder called "crack" (or similar) inside the disk image. Basically, you will have to copy the files from inside the crack folder to where you installed the game (overwriting the installed game files). If you are not sure where the game folder is, you can right click the game shortcut -> properties -> open destination folder (or something similar).

In case you have issues finding the crack(s), I've also made a separate upload containing the cracks for all mahotama games -- it is listed on my games thread's mahotama section as well.

No, I meant that the XP OS is asking for a product code. I've got the Mahotama cracks.

Oh, I'm not sure which XP you downloaded, but there are a couple of universal serials out there. You should find a suitable serial on google without problem. Razz
