Auto editing the "Y" word to "loli" |
Quote |
Every time I try to say that word that is synonymous with "of an age that is comparatively low," it gets edited to "loli." I have heard of people on sites like these having issues with people talking about real world girls, and see how this might be the way you might want to address it, but it is something of a problem in places like the stories and roleplaying page where people would want to use the "Y" word to referr to a character in the story but it always comes out "loli," a phrase that really throws off and breaks up the flow of an otherwise good story, not to mention it is a very innacurate term half the time such as in a recent experience when I tried to use the "Y" word in refference to a teacher in their early 20s and it came out "the loli teacher."
It is a very distracting issue. Do you think someone can tell me the thought process behind this? I can't really see it doing a whole lot more good than the harm it is causing.

As for the wordfilters, they are there for fun, nothing else.
Obviously, attachments are not being wordfiltered, it being a function of the board.

If I remember correctly, long ago there also was a reasoning of not getting google (or other search engines) combine LAH posts with the "Y" word so we stay spared from people wanting not-drawn stuff asking explicitly for it.
As a workaround, how about writing the story the way you wanted the wording i.e. in notepad, posting it as attachment while copy/pasting the same into your stories' thread? This way those who don't care about the wordfilter can read it directly and those who'd like the not-filtered version can just dl the attachment.
(mod-reply on if that would break any rule required - I am not as knowledgeable in that area as I don't post stories)

I understand we have a taboo about giving age description, but what about some terms related to age, like grades in school, teen/pre-adolescent and such?
P.S. I just discovered that pre-t is no-go. I'll keep that in mind.
P.S.2 If the purpose of this auto-filter is to prevent search engine from picking it up, will it be allowed if such text is embedded in images?

Sat's words are absolute, wordfilters are mostly for fun (and for some unintended usage which admins can abuse).
As for the rules, as far as I remember, you're not allowed to request content relating to specific ages. The Stories and RP section, in the other hand, have a bit more lenient rules -- ages should be okay there. And as the word filter is not a rule per se, there should be no problem using filtered words.
Just keep in mind that even though rules are brander there, they still apply. E.g. guro is a gray area there since stories don't show any drawn blood, though too much gore is not recommended (an accident may be okay, but a whole story based on gore probably not). There are, in fact, not many rules regarding what stories & rp's texts may or may not contain, moderators will most often use common sense when moderating those.
If your story contains gore or other not-so-nice aspects, I'd suggest adding an warning or a list of tags in the top of the thread, this way readers will know what to expect before they decide whether to read your story.
